I have about 3 week until my 5th marathon and I kind of fell off of the training band wagon so to speak.
I haven't been posting my training blog updates so much and I think it's because I am getting to the "burnt out" point of training. My mileage goal for the month of October was 100 miles and I fell short by 17 miles, which I guess isn't that bad because I still got in 83 miles for the month. My training kind of went all over the place the past few weeks. I wanted to bump my maintenance runs up a mile from 5 to 6 but instead went down on mileage and started speed work and bridge repeats. I can't seem to get organized with my training lately and it really aggravates me. I don't know if I am supposed to be doing hill work, speed work, longer distance maintenance runs or what so sometimes I do none. I want to get faster yet stay uninjured.
Anyway, I ran one maintenance run last week and then the Daytona half.
Suezette came up and stayed with me for the race. By the time she got to my house Saturday afternoon I had already burried a one inch chunk of broken coffee cup and into the ball of my foot. My kids made it seem like I may bleed out at any minute. lol! It wasn't that bad but it sure was sore and didn't want to stop bleeding.
After I a while I was finally able to get a shoe on and we went to packet pick up where we met up with Monica and her friend. We had a great dinner and dessert at BJ's then headed home for some rest.
Sunday morning we get up at 4:15 to get ready and then headed to the race site which was the Daytona International Speedway. We parked on the infield and waited for Brad, Monica, her friend, Dan and Melissa and Katie. Melissa and Katie ended up over sleeping and missed the race :( BOOO!
My foot was still bothering me quite a bit but I was going to do what I could and try not to get swept.
Suezette and I snapped a quick picture right before the start, can you tell it was super windy??
The fireworks went off and off we went!
I was run/limping and my foot really hurt. Monica, her friend and Dan took off! Suezette stayed with me for a few and I told her to go. I was being passed by walkers and even a guy on crutches! I knew I was going to be swept! We rounded the inside of the track and I was close to last. I wanted to cry! Once I got out of the tunnel and onto ISB my foot started going numb and I was able to run a little better. I got to the 3.1 mile mark in 43 minutes. I kept on with the 2:1 intervals until I got to the causeway and walked up the bridge, ran down it and started invervlas again. We looped a park on beachside and headed back to the speedway. I waived my hellos to Dan, Brad, monica and her friend. Suezette gave me a big hug and that really helped! The last 3-4 miles was really hard! I was getting tired from running in a different gate, my foot was killing me and I wanted nothing more than to be done with this race! LOL!
We finished the race on the trace track at the checkered flag. It was great! Everybody was there waiting for me!
I finished the half in 2:46 which is far better than I thought I could do that day! I was even joking that I paced the sweeper to a new PR considering he was on my tail for the first 3 miles. lol
After the race we grabbed our free beer (or two) and mimosa, some pizza and then headed home to get ready for my son's birthday party that afternoon at the skate and shake. It was a blast even though I wasn't up for skating!
I am running the Savannah half this weekend and am super excited about it!! I wanted to try and PR this race but I don't think that will happen. My legs are just starting to loosen up from last weeks half and my foot is still a bit sore. I am planning a test run this afternoon of only about 3 miles. Wish me luck!!
Next weekend I have the Paul Debruyn 30k and then it's taper time!!!
