Ok, now don't start on me yet. I tried so many times yesterday to type a blog and every time I was almost finished, the blog disappeared. I have no idea what key I'm hitting, but I'm hitting it! So, I'm going to do a very brief recap (no pics, not taking any chances!):
Woke up at 4:44 after only 4 hours of sleep. Such bad heartburn. Emptied the dishwasher & filled up my water while my oatmeal was cooking. Hopped in my car to meet Pagona at a park so we could drive together. Got to L.A. Live in great time. Parked the car, got all our stuff and walked on over. Checked in our bags, used the porta-potty and got ourselves syched. We found corral #11 and waited w/ everyone else.
The star spangled banner was sung and then, they started. We got to cross the starting line around 7:45. At that time, I set my IMapMyRun app so I could see how accurate it all was. I got to run past USC, around the coliseum, past the Science Musuem and then, back again. I was thinking, "This isn't too bad," until I saw the sign that said 10K. What? I have 7 more miles to go. No way! But, I just pushed on. Up a bit of a hill (thank goodness for running up that street all the time. Incline training helps!), through a tunnel and then, down a bit. Yeah! Uh oh, I'll have to run up on the way back. Got to run some flat for awhile until I saw the 6th Street bridge. Up that street went. Refused to walk, so just slowed down and pursued! There was a water station, so I decided to walk from the beginning til the end while I drank a bit. Then, took up my running. Turned around and back down we went. I tried finding Pagona (oh, forgot to mention that she gave me permission to take off. Her pace was way too slow for me. She was running on an injury!), but I couldn't find her. I decided to take a shot block to get some energy. Then I see it. Mile 10. Alright, 3 to go. I can do this. That was the longest mile until mile 11. Then, 12, then I saw that finish line. I tried to sprint a bit, but I didn't have it in me. I just went a little faster, but not much. Crossed that finish line w/ my arms in the air. Didn't even look at the clock b/c I knew it was off (I started later then that!). I took out my phone and looked at my app: 2:18:24. Really? I was going for at least 2:30. I surprised myself. Got me some water and banana and then, waited for Pagona. She came in 40 mins. after me. We got our pictures taken together, shared a bagel and then, got our bags. We were tired, but feeling good.
So, here are my official stats:
Overall place: 3598 (no idea how many people ran)
There were tons of people, probably 1,000's. I'm proud of myself and so ready for Vegas in December. I"m hoping my time will be just as good. The only good thing going for me is that I don't think there are any hills. So, that might just help!!
This is what happens when you take the pic by yourself: BACKWARDS!
The other pics won't upload. One is better then none!
P.S. It was my baby's birthday and she let me run the marathon! She didn't want me to, but, she let me any way. She had a good day: dad made her breakfast, took her to American Girl, had a homemade dinner: tri-tip, lasagna, salad and home made cake! A good day!
So, until next time-
