Week Four

Monday, October 17, 2011

On the 20th it will be one month since I started this journey, and I've went from 259 to 241! I've had a few setbacks , as you all know because I blog about them....however I am very pleased with the weight I am losing and I am starting to feel much better. Four pounds this last week lost, the week before none, so I'll take the four pound loss and feel good about it.

Kyles Birthday party over the weekend turned out very nice, of course there were chips and other junk however as advised from you friends, I took along with me a fresh fruit bowl filled with watermelon and grapes that everyone enjoyed! I limited myself to one grilled hamburger patty a very small serving of potato salad, about four bites, My best girlfriend Barb made it and I knew I wasnt going to be able to resist it, she makes the best!!! but I was careful about it. Instead of cake I enjoyed the fruit that I had brought and it worked out fine. So thank you for all your encouragement!

My dieting is going good, my exercise not so good, I'm getting lower back aches from them, so I do do them, its just owie afterwards.

Is there anyone on here doing the weight watcher diet plan?? What do you think about it??
I had a Drs, appointment last Wednesday and she said she would much prefer me following the weight watcher diet. Right now I'm on two veggies and a lean meat, excluding starches all together (cept when I'm weak) which has been twice......I cant remember why she told me this, something about my trigliserites or something like that...lol

I didnt eat any cake but my Grandson Kyle sure enjoyed his piece!

    Hi Pamela,

I looked around the web site for the nutritional recommendations. I was able to find mine by going to MY NUTRITION and towards the bottom of the page, selecting CHANGE NUTRITION GOALS. If you have never set any, I'm not sure you will see the option. However,I believe these recommendations are made based upon questions you answered when you set up your account. Let me know if you want more info. Good luck!

You are doing great!!!! I've done WW. The biggest difference I have found in the 2 is that Spark is just so much more than "weight loss." emoticon

    Hi Pamela,

You are doing so well!! Congratulations. I have been on the Weight Watchers diet in the past and it is a very healthy, balanced diet. My mother (age 90) is a lifetime member and swears by them.

But, if you don't want to join WW, SparkPeople has a really good recommended diet plan. It is very well balanced, and as far as I can see, quite similar to WW. I set mine up so long ago, I don't remember how I did it. I will poke around and try to discover that and tell you about it.

I know SP recommends a balanced diet of healthy foods and they base how many calories you need on your current weight and lifestyle. I don't remember reading if you're using the food tracker or not, but it is REALLY helpful---not only in planning and tracking what you eat, but also the little summaries let you know if you're eating in a balanced way.

The SP diet can be used 2 ways. You can make up your own menus, or they have suggested menus. You can select which way you like.

I'm going to look and see how I originally set mine up.

    >You really had a triumph at the birthday party. Sounds like you were able to enjoy a little of everything and still eat very healthfully. Good for you!

I have absolutely no idea on the Weight Watcher's diet, but the word your doctor used was triglycerides. There's a SparkPeople article on them:

    http://www.sparkpeople
    .com/resource/health_articles.a
    sp?id=1610

Basically, they are what is stored inside your fat cells and taken back out to give you energy. The more obese we are and the more we eat calorie-wise, the more of them float around in our blood and potentially cause issues because there's too much.

At a guess, what your doctor was suggesting was that you follow a pre-planned diet that makes sure you get the right balance of protein, fat, and carbohydrates in healthy forms when possible. If you're cutting out almost all starches, you might be eating lower in the carbohydrate section than you need to be, especially with only 2 veggies instead of 5-8 fruits and veggies that are often recommended.

What an adorable little man. A pity he's way too young for me. ^_~

Very well done on the fruit option. It's also a fantastic way to help others improve their health even a small bit by having that kind of option available. (And fruit tastes great to boot.)
