Low-Carb, changes happening??

Monday, October 17, 2011

This is our third day eating low-carb (less than or =20g a day) and maybe it's starting to work. Eating low carb is meant to put your body into a natural state called ketosis (link at bottom). That's where your body is burning its fat for energy rather than relying on carb intake. This causes you to lose fat. One way you can tell if you are in ketosis is to use these nifty little test strips we call "pee strips". You pee on it, it turns a shade from light pink to dark purple, indicating how much ketones is in your urine (you pee out the excess). We've been testing this since day 1 and today was the first day we both showed ketones. Yippeee!!! Although, I do realize that some ketones in the urine sometimes is normal even when people are munching more carbs so I am taking this with a grain of salt and both of our strips showed the lightest pink, so I'm pretty sure we are on the low side regardless.
Anyway, the other news is that my weight is back down to 139. I had been up to 142 two days ago but admit that was from a "pre-new-lowcarb-diet" panic binge of sorts so I'm not sitting here thinking I've lost three pounds. My lowest weight so far has been 137 and that's what I've kept my tracker at (because I don't deserve congrats for relosing the same pounds) and only when I get back down to that weight and lose from THERE will I be celebrating and thinking this diet is working. Randy's down 5 pounds from 198.6 to 193.6 and he only gained a pound on our binge so he's really down a net of 4 pounds! That's exciting as what we'd been doing previously wasn't working for him. Woohoo (oh oh, maybe I should let him report this news? Shhhh, don't say I told you!) I hope some of that 4 pounds is water weight or sodium weight as that seems too high to me. I'm going to monitor him and make sure he doesn't keep losing at that rate. Want him around and healthy!

The weather is windy and rainy but not really cold but still, I think that instead of my planned run (using Nike+ on my new iPhone 4S! Can't wait to try it.) will be postponed till tomorrow. Elliptikill, here I come.

Am still happy from the concert last night. Found a pic from the review, this is what Roger Daltry looks like now. He's obviously doing something right. Wonder if he low-carbs? LOL

You crack me up... the way you incorporate the "binge" weight into the over all senario. It is not fair that your "binge" weight was about 3 pounds and Randy's was only 1 pound (if you were evil, you could sneak him some carbs to even up the playing field) .... lol emoticon

    JK.. be good emoticon
