"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."
- Martin Luther King Jr., civil rights icon
This was the quote I received in today's emails. I have to admit that I've not always been great when it comes to personal responsibility. Whether it's finances, household responsibilities, or my health and fitness, I don't always do what needs to be done. In the past, I have been guilty of finding blame everywhere but within myself when things didn't go right. It's just been over the last year or so that I've started accepting the fact that I am just as much at fault as anyone or anything else when things in my life don't always go in the right direction. I'm determined to start working more at figuring out what I could have done differently when these things happen and try to learn from them so the same doesn't happen again.
It's been a long day. I got up and went walking with the ladies this morning. Since they are at a much different place in their fitness than I am, the walk doesn't always go as swiftly as I would like. I decided that I was going to get my heart rate up no matter what today. Since Keiran wasn't with us, but Sarah had her oldest daughter home today while family is in town, I opted to push both Sarah's 7-yr old and 3-yr old in their double stroller. Let me just say that if you ever want to really get your heartrate up while on what would normally be a slower paced stroll, this is a great way. I was exhausted! LOL
I've spent the majority of the day working on Keiran's Halloween costume since we got the last of the supplies last night. He's going to be the Aflac Duck. Yes! Of all the things my 3-yr old could be for Halloween, his fascination with te Aflac Duck won out against all of the others. Well, trying to find a duck costume was easier said than done, and those we did find were yellow - that wasn't going to work. I put my crafty brain to work and we came up with a game plan. That's all I'm going to tell you for now, but I promise there will be photos to come. Oh, and Daisha is going to be a rag doll. :) Her pick and she's excited to wear a yarn wig - we'll see how long that lasts.
So among my searches on Pinterest, I'm always looking for fitness-related posts. I recently came across a few and decided to give them a try tonight. Strength training is usually my weakness, so I figured trying one upper body and one lower body tonight would be plenty - I was right! I am definitely feeling it - but I should sleep good tonight. The workouts helped me earn 20 rubies and 15 emeralds for today's portion of our BLC Weekend Challenge. Here's what I did:
I was hoping to max out on the 90 mins of cardio we're allowed for "Mine Miles" but I think I may have to call it a night. Besides, the kids and I have a walk to the library planned for tomorrow, on top of everything else I need to get done around my home. :) I hope you all enjoy your weekend!!!
