Bareback

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

I have not ridden Honey bareback yet. But after being inspired by Tuffybird I thought what am I waiting for! Because it has been a long time, before this year that I have ridden, I know that I have to work on getting my "seat" back. What better way than bareback!!!!

So I got out my Parelli bareback pad. I love that pad!!! The reason? It is suede and your butt sits on it like glue. Just AWESOME!!! Doesn't Honey look so pretty with it on? I think she does, of course I am a bit biased. LOL

Wow! The first 5 mins. of riding was so strange. I was wondering how I ever did it before! Was my balance ever off!!! But then it got a lot better. I am sure that I will feel it in my legs tomorrow. Good excuse to ride again. But anyways, I had to take a picture to prove that I was up there.

I really think that if I ride like this more often, I will become a lot better rider for my sweet girl. By the way, this is the first time that she has had anybody on her with just a bareback pad on. So I think that she did awesome. The funny thing is that we have these big tractor tires in the arena that we feed the horses in when they are in there. I had to get a little step stool to climb onto the tire, to climb on her. She kept going over by the tire that I used to get on her, and she would stop, like are we done yet?
So I had a lot of fun doing this and I just had to share. Hoping that someday that I will be the best horsewoman that I can be for a horse that deserves to have me be at my best. Here is another pic. of the view up there.

YOU ARE THAT HORSE WOMAN! You empathise with your little girl and she with you. I have never seen a bare back pad before, here bare back is bare back! (actually I lie, i think something similar is used on donkeys here) What ever! I think it's a fantastic idea. I haven't had a lot to do with western saddles but have a feeling they are a lot heaver than the ones I'm used to? And you have something to grab in the pommel area! Looks to me like it's ideal for both of you. Give Honey a great big hug from me. emoticon

You & Honey both did awesome!!
So funny how she kept going over by the tire for you.
I always get such a kick out of how they are always busy thinking, aren't they?
I think if they could talk, they would.

OMG that is awesome!!! that is the only way I ride - bareback - just a bareback pad - ours aren't as nice as yours but work well - that last picture is my favorite - she is giving you that look like come on now what are you doing - love it! makes me miss riding all the more - I keep saying we will ride but without a riding partner and horses that won't go out alone it sure does make it hard to ride anywhere but in our own yard - but I do what I can as long as they are happy. thanks for sharing it sure made me smile!

I used to ride bareback ALL the time as a kid. I hate getting all tacked up to ride. I haven't ridden bareback much as an adult, because it seems all I ride are youngsters. I just started riding my 4 yr old bareback (he wasn't broke to ride until 3) He's got the temperament that I can ride bareback. Looks like Honey didn't mind either. Boy, the first time I rode bareback this year, I sure felt perched, but things have gotten better. Congrats on your bareback ride, sounds like things were "uneventful" which is exciting in itself :-)

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon It sounds like you and Honey both did a great job! I always enjoyed bareback because I could 'feel' the horse so much better and I think it's easier for the horse to feel the cues too. You're right - the balance comes back quickly. I'm glad you had fun.

And I love Honey's head shot. She's a little beauty.
