Losing For A Cure
Friday, October 07, 2011
As everyone knows, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. In 2001 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and at the time was given only 3 years to live...well, 10 years later I am still alive and kicking. Since breast cancer runs very high in my family, I have made it a point for years to always buy something pink in October with a portion of those proceeds going to breast cancer research...and this year is no different...sort of. This year, in addition to purchasing something pink, I have tied it all into my monthly weight loss...confused? Allow me to explain...For every pound I lose (as well as Kernen), we will be donating that amount (in dollars of course) to the Susan G. Koman foundation, so if we lose 30pounds together, we will send that that much money. Even though the start of the month has not gotten off on the right foot (no pun intended from the picture above-which I do own those sneakers), I intend to persevere and lose as much weight as I can, because if it weren't for this research, I might not be here today, just a little food for thought (better on the brain than on the hips). I encourage anyone and everyone to help the cause this month and do what you can. On a side note, October 23rd there is a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk that I will be taking part of, and it is my first ever, so wish me luck.
