This has to do with my half marathon on Saturday.
Everything was going great. My pace was good for me anyway it is always my race no one elses.
So off we go I am in the last so I jog to catch up don't need to be out of sight of the others.
I pass a few as I go along then as I am following the others off we go around a corner now albeit these races do have trails in them sometimes but I was not aware of this many. So we keep following and after the 5th mile we finally figure out we are LOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Inside a 650 acre park with no one. How did we end up here?
So me and another racer turn around and decide to go back the way we came (not the easiest amongst a lot of trails either) we come across a few people they point us in the right direction. Now mind you we are still keeping up a 12 minute pace!
Up the hills, down the hills, watch for critters, and who knows a rattlesnake or two is possible also.
So we find a few more people who point us in the right direction. Now we need to go down a very steep grade the man is going ahead he loses his footing and hits a rock face first!---blood everywhere, glasses in the rocks, hat over here he is lying across the trail etc. you get the picture. Another lady who is walking in the park comes across us and helps us out and to an aid station where the race was actually happening!!!!!!!!!!! So now I finally get some gatorade because all of these mile we have had no food or water or anything as we were taken astray.
I asked the man how do I get back to to town he points me in the right direction I was thrilled only 4 miles to go!! I had already done around 9 or so more or less.
I am not sure what the exact mileage was but I crossed that finish line anyway as did the man I was walking with. The point is we did not give up, we kept going and being a tortoise the time was rather good too however my legs were extremely fatigued from all of the trails but I crossed that finish line and I got my medal.
I did earn that one for sure. The officials finally figured out there were others out there also that were lost or some found their way out earlier but it was not well marked where we turned and no maps or anyone to tell us otherwise.
I did finish and for that I am thrilled I also went to work that day for almost a full shift at a deli and walked an additional 6.73 miles a very full day.
But I did finish what I started
