Columbus marathon goals

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

It's time to post the goals for this race. Obviously, my ultimate goal would be a PR - under 4:30. But, I don't think I will do that - I haven't trained that fast. So, I think my goal is going to be 4:59.59. I'm pretty sure I can do that, if I don't go out too fast for the first 5-10 miles.

After that, my goal is to get my AVERAGE pace down to 10 minute miles or less. Before I train for another long race, I want to be able to HOLD 10 minute miles for a 10 mile run. I have been doing 3 mile runs all week (since I'm tapering, yay), and they have been under 11 minute mile pace. Not really near 10:00, but under 11. So, I know I am faster than my long runs indicate.

I also know that I need to cut the crap and lose some weight. When my taper is over, I'm going back to 2 hours of exercise in the morning before work, and to much more calorie counting than the averaging I do with Spark. In order to lose weight, I need to seriously keep my calorie count UNDER 500 prior to dinner (breakfast and lunch). I have also noticed through Spark's nutrition counter that I eat WAYYY too much fat. So, back to yucky fat-free stuff.

I know it kind of sounds like a cop-out to "wait" until my taper is over, but I don't want to go into the marathon calorie deprived to excess. So I am just trying to eat better, not necessarily less right now.

I also joined a swimming Spark Team, and I'm hoping that I can get some time in the pool this winter.

Molly, have fun at the marathon!

Good idea to not cut cals during your taper. You need your tank full!
