Furniture assembly 101

Assembled 2 Ikea shelving units this evening. Managed it by myself, with a few interesting 'gymnastic' moves (the instructions didn't mention anything about having to SIT on the unit in order to hold the pieces together during the construction process, but I found that helped a lot, lol). Anyway, after letting the 2 boxes sit unopened in my 2nd bedroom for probably 3 months, I finally decided to put the units together this evening, and once I got started, nothing would do but that I would get them both completed and put into place all in one evening. But it's DONE now!! My purpose for them is shelves in which to store sheets and towels in my master bedroom walk-in closet. They turned out really well, and I got everything moved into them. Even a couple of extra shelves left over for other misc. storage -- yay.
This is Step 1 of my plan to re-decorate and re-purpose my 2nd bedroom, which has become a general "storage room", i.e., clutter and more clutter! My plan is to de-clutter it, paint it a warm colour (something in the nutmeg / warm orange tone range), get a nice area rug, a work table & chair and an easy chair, some artwork for the walls, and make it into an art / hobby room.
Anyone else have experience with doing this sort of project? Or at learning art? Would love to hear your experiences! I've never been talented at art, but I find it very relaxing, and am thinking that if I have a room I love and have things all set up, I'll be motivated to do a bit most days. ...Now what to do with the big elliptical trainer sitting in the middle of the room? ha ha.
Take care, everyone.
