Fitness Fanatic?

Thursday, September 22, 2011

Someone in my family referred to me as a fitness fanatic. I didn't know how to react to this at the time. Because it was not exactly said in a positive way, I felt a bit offended at the time. But as I continued to think about it, it did not sound so bad.

As I continued analyzing the statement, I actually started to feel proud of myself. Do not get me wrong - 'fanatic' is not the way we want to be described, not even when we are doing something as positive as taking care of ourselves in order to live healthy lives. I would be worried if someone who is also doing something about their health (such as exercising and eating healthy) called me a fanatic. Especially if the said someone was something of an expert in the field of health and fitness. In this case, it would suggest that I was missing certain crucial points in my effort to get fit and healthy (you know, like when one is sincere, but sincerely wrong). But to be called a fitness fanatic by someone who is not making an effort to make themselves fit and healthy is a bit of a joke.

I googled 'fitness fanatic' and I have to agree - I AM A FITNESS FANATIC. I own more workout bras than regular bras; I have about 3 pairs of running shoes and 2 pairs of walking shoes; I schedule every activity around my workouts - if I have to travel out of town, I will wake up one hour earlier so as to squeeze in a workout before my journey; I plan all my meals; I never leave the house without my pedometer (I could go on and on with this list but I guess you get the picture)

If this is what I need to do to stay on course, then I'm happy to be a fitness fanatic. I'd rather be called a fitness fanatic than have someone refer to me as a lazy slob!

I too wish I could be called a fitness fanatic. I used to be one years ago and weighed about 30 pounds less than I do now....hhmmmm..... I see a connection..... Enjoy your fitness and dedication to staying there. Maybe the person who said that was a little jealous they did't have the same the motivation or fitness level that you do.
    Keep up the great work!
