Space Coast 26.2 training WK 8

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

I think my new trend is to blog about the past week when I am already half way through the next week. lol!

Week 8 of training called for my normal two 5 mile runs during the week and my long run consisting of 15 miles.

I posted on my last blog that I reduced my Tuesday 5 miler to a 3 miler.
3 slow miles-Avg pace 12:45

Thursday I got my 5 miles in but those dern legs were tight for the first 2.5 miles. I stopped to stretch them out a few times and then I was good to go. I wanted to run these 5 in a tempo pace but my legs decided they would run a comfortable pace instead.
5 miles-Avg pace 12:06

Saturday's plan was to run with my friends Kristen, Angel and James. Angel and James were going to park at the half way mark and leave from there. Kris parked at my house to run the full 15 miles (out and back course). We all started out from my house at 5am and took my normal route along the river and to the beach side. The first mile felt great for me. The rest of the miles my body fought me. I felt so blah, like I was stuck in that one speed that felt faster than it actually was. Other than my body bailing on me, the run and the company were nice.
Once we got to the beachside we snapped some pics of the sunrise

Kris had a lot going on this weekend so she decided that she was going to end at the 7.5 mile mark with James and Angel. They headed home and it was bitter sweet watching them pull away. I really wanted to end my run too. I was tired, my body was not happy and I wanted to quit. I haven't missed a long run yet and I didn't want to hinder my training so I kept going, so I win. lol
I was exhausted by the time I got home. I soaked in the tub for at least 45 minutes. lol!
15 miles-Avg pace 13.08 (a whole minute per mile slower than last weeks 14 miler. ugh!)

I am already into week 9 which consists of my normal two 5 mile runs and a fall back long run of 11 miles. Week 9 marks the half way point in my training. In 9 more weeks I will be blazing out 26.2 miles for the 5th time!
This week I want to start some kind of speed work. I have always been afraid of speed work because I don't want to get injured but I need to do something. I really would like to get faster.

So that's all for now!
Have a happy rest of the week!!

Awesome job sticking with the plan! It will pay off come race day! I'm so glad you said that about there being 9 weeks till Space Coast. That means I have 10 weeks till my marathon. I needed to hear that because I am DYING for a step down week but was too freaked about the schedule to take one!

Oh, BTW, I checked my spam folder and no dice... I don't know where my Spark notifications are going!

I can't even imagine running 26.2 miles right now... Heck, I can't imagine anything longer than 13.1 currently! you are one heck of a rockstar!! 3 hours and 15 minutes is pretty good for 15 miles. That's great. Heck, that's pretty common for my half marathon time! haha

You're doing great. Keep it up!

Gaaaaaaaaaaaah! Is Space Coast only nine weeks away?! REALLY?!!

This is going to be my FIRST 26.2 and the nerves are definitely starting to set in!

    Great job on your training!!

You are doing awesome! I just can not imagine a distance beyond the 13.1. I know exactly what you mean about the speedwork. Fear of injury and hating every second of it is a huge deterrent. I haven't done anywhere near what I should/wanted in order to hit my goal for Saturday. :(

Good job! Beautiful picture. For speed work I am doing 880's on the fallback weeks (but that is preparing for the SC half). For speed work in a marathon you could add mile repeats. The target time for the mile would be slightly faster than your goal pace (or tempo pace).
