Hold the mayo and make it an open-face

Last week I posted a blog entry about how I was beginning to realize what I was really eating versus what I thought. I really thought that lemonaise was more healthful than regular mayo. And I just KNEW my veggie burger was as healthy as it came. One of my fellow Sparkers mentioned how making trade-offs was very helpful for them in their journey. I decided to try it out today.
I wanted a turkey sandwich for lunch but I also wanted some of my favorite dates. My original turkey sandwich consisted of turkey, 2 slices of rye bread, chipotle mayo, mustard, pepperjack cheese, and jalapenos. Umm, yum. I know, I know. I should have found a way to incorporate some veggies, but one step at a time people. Anyhow, I decided to forego the mayo and the second slice of bread. With that minor change I skimmed off almost 200 calories. I have to say I didn't even notice a difference. I made sure to use a small saucer to mentally satisfy my stomach and I got to have my Medjool dates. Talk about having your cake and eating it too.
I think I'm going to like this trade-off thing!
