Canning Jars,Lids and Sealers

Sunday, September 18, 2011

My daughter is coming over tommorrow to learn how to home can some fruit and veggies from the farmers market.

My jar supply, lids and sealers is low. I have managed to find two dozen quart jars and about two dozen pint jars. Need buy a few more lids, bands and a couple dozen more jars.

We will be canning tomatoes, peaches, pears, dills. Preparing tomato sauce, bell pepper spicey jelly and plum jam. Going to be a busy day! Thank goodness for a dishwasher to sterilize all them jars!

My jars have disappeared since the boys left home. I think they take home canning with them and never return the jars. I said no jars, no canning. Taught one of my Son's wife to can instead.

Yes, we had a great mom, daughter and grand daughter day!
Even sent my daughter home with the large quart canner. She will get much use out of it for many years to come! I still have my smaller canner for pint jars and a pressure canner, for salmon.

I've been canning tomato juice - have 76 quarts done so far this year - hope to make 100 as DH drinks it all year long. I've also canned peach jam. dill pickles and pickled beats. The Yukon Gold and sweet potatoes are still in the ground along with the carrots - they are all next on the list.
So much work - so little time!
    Hope your canning went well!
