Why I've been busy, and some Pros and Cons

Sunday, September 18, 2011

So where are some kinda random things that have been going on in my life. I've had people ask me about some of them so I thought I'd just stick it all out on one blog.

I've been busy, doing what?
- More exercise- going to the gym takes time
- Making healthy foods, many of which are eaten away from home and need prep and packaging time. Lots of chopping, measuring, tracking. It really does eat up time.
- Other activities on the weekends. I've had some volunteer stuff, then upcoming I have a Corporate challenge (people from similar sized companies come together for a track and field-type day). I am signed up for the obstacle course and tug of war. Remember these are activities for people of all ages and fitness levels so nothing too bad (think dizzy bat running and very low balance beams). Not I don't have any details on the event. DH said he would dress up to support me :).
-Taking down a tree in the yard
-having the plumbers over.
-then the plumbing issues and sorting issues. This goes to my pro/cons list.

So DH's contract ended at the end of August. Since he has been home he has been taking on the house keeping role (yah). So lots of laundry, cleaning etc. He is going through each room and closet to reorganized stuff and see what we can get rid of. So some days when I get home from work there is a huge pile of stuff that is "mine" and needs to be gone through. Most of it gets donated, some gets reorganized. The house is looking a lot better. It isn't like we have that much stuff to begin with, but we also have very little storage space.

Well while DH was organizing stuff in the basement he notice a yucky smell. He also noticed it in the garage (two places I don't go regularly). At first he thought it was from the drain cleaning we had a few weeks ago (the pipe had been opened up) but we went to investigate. Found out we have water leaking from our sink into the crawlspace under the kitchen and out through he siding in the back yard. He thought maybe the plumber had damaged the pipe when he snaked it out a few weeks ago. Well they came, charged us money and couldn't easily ID the problem. Unwilling to pay more DH decided to find it himself.

NOTE: this is an old Post WWII track housing with some STRANGE modifications and repairs.

After much trial and error we think we found the problem and today we will be running new pipe. It will probably take most of the day.

So what pros and cons are there:
Con-DH has no job, boo! That means less spending monies.
Pro- making my house so much cleaner, was around to notice the problem, was at home to meet the plumbers-shortening the time line, has time to find the problem and come up with solutions. We also eat out less during the week!

He also made me an early Christmas gift. We are impatient about these things so he gave it to me last week. It is a home made wooden Settlers of Catan game. All the pieces (including wooden cards). AWESOME!

Okay, he just got back from the hardware store with pipes. Gotta go.

Man...sorry about the plumbing problems! Sounds like you and your husband are good at handling them together though. It's good that you're getting your house cleaned out...that's been an ongoing 'project' at my house that dosen't really get much attention.

That obstacle course thingy sounds kinda cool. I bet you do pretty good at it. I'm thinking that marathon you did..the fact that you used to rock climb (by the way, that rock climbing place that was being built near me closed before they even opened!), and the fact that you do ST will work in your favor for sure.

And the fact that your other half will dress up again...TOTALLY COOL! You have got to take a picture!

Home repair issues. I wanna know how you took the tree down. I am not a stump lover by any means...but ohhh....power tools. Mmmmm. Chain saw...ohhhh. How'd you do it? How? (Can you tell I am excited that some form of power tool was used?)

Sorry to hear about the plumbing...did you all get that done? I do most plumbing repairs at my place...but admit, when I do it I tend to have to visit the home improvement stores multiple times. Ack.

I also googled that Setters of Katan thingy as I had no idea what that was...and..he MADE you the board? Holy crap! NICE!

And by the way...one more for the Pro column....you kinda learn some cool skills doing home repairs. :)

Sorry to hear about your pipe problem, but sounds like your Hubby is taking care of the problem. My Hubby has two left thumbs, so any repairing is done by me. He is very good about assisting and following instructions, which is a big help, since I usually have him do the grunt work.

Hope you & your Hubby don't have anymore house problems.

Since the weekend is basically over, have a great week.
