I now hate cotton and other randomness

Let me start by saying I have been a horrible member to both of my Biggest Loser teams. I'm a member of the Camo Crew on BLC17 and a member of the Yellows on The Biggest Loser Fall Challenge. We're in the 2nd week for both of them and I have GOT to get more active. While I've definitely upped my exercise lately, I am not active enough on the team threads. Both teams are super active on there and sometimes it feels a little overwhelming to keep up. Granted, I've been a little distracted the last week or so, but it's time to step up and keep up!!!!

The last time I blogged I had just lost water at my house. I finally got it back 8 days later!!!! Let me tell you that I will never take running water for granted EVER again!!!! I got it back this last Wednesday and I still have to think twice before turning on the faucet or flushing the stool. I was in such a water-saving mode that now it's hard to break.

I had an absolutely horrible week of eating while I didn't have water. I never realized how much that would affect my eating. I would think about what I might fix when I got home and then usually just grab something on the way home. Oh alright, I used it as an excuse to grab something on the way home. I should have stocked up on things easy to make like precooked chicken or stuff for sandwiches............but I didn't.

For about the last week I've been having a strange pain just below my neck and between my shoulder blades. One day my whole left arm even felt numb. I mentioned it to Kim and asked her if I might have a pinched nerve. She asked if I had knots in my muscles there. I don't know!!!!! She was here for a little while yesterday so I asked her to rub it and see what she thinks. As soon as she started she said OH MY GOD you're tight. She immediately hit the right spot and I could almost feel the relief going down my left arm. Kim is a certified massage therapist and has been for about 3 years now. I've never gotten a massage from her, matter of fact have never had a massage in my entire life. Well, guess what???? She's going to give me a full massage this week!!!!!

Thanks to Kim I now have a gym membership. YAY!!!!! She was able to add me as a family member to her corporate membership at Genesis. I was a member there years ago so I knew I liked it there. It kind of has a reputation for being the "snobby" place to go, but I beg to differ. Everyone is super nice so far. I had my first assessment appointment with a trainer there (you get 2 free appointments) last Monday and will have the 2nd one some time this week. Last Wed and Thurs we had parent/teacher conferences at work so I didn't have to be to work until later. On Thursday I took advantage of a beginner Zumba class. The instructor asked before hand if there was anyone new there so of course I raised my hand. Afterwards, she found me and was telling me she couldn't believe how quick I caught on. I'm disappointed that I won't be able to take that class again because of work. She wants me to come to her more advanced classes on Sunday afternoons but I think they are the same time as a Yoga class that I want to try. I think I could really use some good stretching as tight as I've been.

I am loving this cooler weather we are having but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to dress for outside runs. Dressing for hot weather was easy, as little as possible while not scaring anyone!!! Yesterday was in the lower 60s, cloudy and a light wind. I decided against a tank top, went with a t-shirt and almost added a sweatshirt on top of that. I am so glad I didn't do that!!! I should have stuck with a trusty tank top even. I covered 6 miles and had sweat dripping down my face even with the low temps and the wind. Did I mention that the t-shirt was cotton? Uuugggghhhhh, sweaty cotton turns heavy and sticks to you everywhere!!!!

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that I had 2 first dates this last week. Why oh why do I bother???? There won't be a 2nd date with either of them.........nuf said!!

Enough rambling for today...........time to get some ST at the gym before hitting that Yoga class :)

    Tami you are doing fantastic this week! You lost 3.5lbs and had the highest ST minutes posted for the biggest loser yellow team! SO Yeahhhhh for you!!!!

    Cotton has been a problem for me and sweat as well but just think its more environmental than say Polyester, which in fact i feel gets even more heavier than cotton! I do agree that you could maybe look for some workout wear thats natural fibers! atheltic groups are doing wonderful things like ADIDAS and their climate 365 collection! I love it!

    Congrats on the Membership.. Thats always great to have!

    Cotton? oh dear! Hmmm I need to get more un-cotton shirts. Its my favorite for just around the house but I can see how a cotton shirt filled with sweat will be a portable weight jacket (think of it as training with extra weight!? no??). But I have read it's really yuccky for runners. Gotta find that pink "technical" shirt I got from Target and start wearing it to go sweat in!!

    why am I so afraid of sweat anyway?? I shouldn't be!

    Very cool on getting the gym membership!! and having a massage therapist handy for those knotty shoulders (I get 'em too and don't yet have a personal masseuse!! My gf is working on her massage therapy program at BCCC so it'll be awhile before she's licensed to kill those knotty pains!!).

    oy with the water! Glad you have that back!! I remember similar situations in the years past when our well went down.

    And DATES!! how wonderful! hope they SPARK something good even if you think right now they will be duds. Who knows - they might have friends or acquaintances who would be a better match!

    Girl, you are fine on CAMO...I know we get overwhelming with talk and challenges, hang in there. Just remember with our group, just look for the emoticon for the most important info.

    Definitely invest in some sweat wicking running gear, you will notice the difference right away!

    You are good! Dealing with that water problem is enough to set anyone off their routine. I especially like that you are on track again and have the gym membership! emoticon

    Don't give up on those dates! Just go and have fun and you might be surprised one day. Enjoy a long shower just once to celebrate your water!

    Thank you for the updates! I'm glad you finally got your water back, that you have a massage therapist for a daughter (!), that you're trying yoga (that should help immensely), and that you had a great run despite the cotton.

    I hope you're able to get into the swing of things with keeping up with your BLC teams. I'm glad they're both active because that makes it more fun.

    We all have bad days and sometimes weeks but it looks as though you have pulled yourself out of the rut and moved on. Being without water sucks!! My gym membership has helped me in many ways to get a good shower in when I've not had water due to the weather.

    I totally agree with you about the heavy cotton, too - I love cotton in general, especially organic cotton... but NOT for working out in emoticon . I have to say, workout clothes are the only exception so far to my rule of "natural fibers only". emoticon

    Hey Camo Girl and fellow BLC'er - just popping in to say hello. I am on the Azure Destination team and your blog caught my eye. I know it can be a little overwhelming and a little intimidating to try and keep track of everything your team posts, and continue your workouts, and participate in challenges and continue on with living your busy life. I just read through posts, comment on what I can or just post a hello post, and let the rest go. As for challenges, I strive for participation, not perfection. This is supposed to be fun, don't stress over it. Your doing GREAT!

    Years ago I went hog-wild and bought a bunch of expensive, sweat-wicking workout clothes. I have had them for about 6 years, worn and washed them hundreds of times and they still look and feel brand new. It can hurt when you fork over that kind of cash at the time, but if I divided the cost by number of wear, it works out to pennies. You can get nice stuff at outlet stores for cheaper, like at Adidas, Nike, etc., or if you're tall like me, Fit Couture (online) has amazing pants that come in longer lengths. Or petite, if you're vertically challenged.

    I'm so glad you water is running again. What a huge pain that must have been and I can see how it would add challenge meal time.

    Awesome that Kim can help you work out the muscle tightness! You are a lucky lady! And awesome about the gym membership too! Have fun with yoga and zumba. I'm quite sure I would be pulled aside at the end of class and asked not to come back - my two left feet would likely be quite a humorous distraction for everyone else. LOL!

    We're having trouble figuring out what to wear for cooler and wet weather. We'll have to go shopping sometime next month. Thanks for the tip about cotton - I probably would have forgot about that. LOL!

    What a great blog! Lots of stuff going on in your life.

    I am so glad you now have water. I remember being without water for brief periods of time - never eight days - and it is definitely tough.

    Your massage sounds wonderful and very much needed. They have therapeutic massage for a reason. Yes, it feels good, but in certain conditions, it's as important as medicine. Seems as if you need it so I'm glad you will be getting one. I think I need one too!

    My girls LOVE Zumba. It "seems" simple but it;s so deceiving. While your mind is working to remember the steps, your body is doing great work while you have fun! What could be better. It think it would be so cool if you could arrange your schedule so you could take a Zumba class once or twice a week. My one daughter lost ALL of her baby weight through healthy diet and Zumba - nothing more.

    Keep it up. Juggling all that you do is not easy. I know CAMO is a chatty bunch. I have to take notes to keep it all straight. You will get it. Do what you can and let the rest go.
