Today has been a very somber day. I woke up early so I could be sure to watch Good Morning America's coverage of the 9/11 Memorial. I have to say that they really did a great job without showing too many of the most horrific images from this day 10 years ago. Daisha and I sat down together this morning, and through tears and sobs, I tried to explain why this day is so important in American History. I limited the amount of tv coverage she got to see since I wasn't sure how many of the graphic images would be shown. She handled it like a champ, though since I kept everything very vague, I'm not sure how much she really understands right now.
The Mary Kay party was fun. I had a couple of friends have to cancel last minute for unexpected reasons, but still ended up having 5 show up. We laughed and just relaxed for a few hours. My mother-in-law even stuck around and had dinner with us, not that anyone was hungry after the snacks I'd put out for the party:
Fruit tray with Orange Creamsicle Dip - I actually made this one as low-fat as I could. And this is the platter I snacked off of most of the time, not having more than just a little bit of the dip. :)
Vanilla Wafers and Graham Crackers with Cookies & Cream Dip - this one was yummy but also one that I had in very limited amounts.
Baked Cinnamon Tortilla Chips with homemade Pumpkin Butter - My mother-in-law absolutely loved these chips and couldn't believe how easy they were to make.
Overall, the party was a hit. I used a good chunk of my credit from the party to buy Tony a nice bottle of cologne that Mary Kay has for men called Domain - it's awesome! I also finally ordered the TimeWise Miracle Set. It's a four-piece set of anti-aging stuff. I've always been horrible at taking care of my skin. I figured that if I'm busting my butt to get my body healthy again, that it's time to make my skin part of that process. I will get it on Thursday and have never been so excited about washing my face. lol
A few of my friends have been wondering why I've become so excited to start selling Mary Kay. Once they tried several of the products tonight, they have now realized why I like it. Many of the skincare products are on the pricier side, but you also use a lot less than you do the regular stuff you can buy in stores, so it actually lasts longer.
I did take the day off from cardio. Seeing as it's the first time since September started that I've taken a cardio break, I'm not worried about it. I did a couple of strength training exercises earlier while I was folding laundry though, so the day wasn't completely "wasted". And getting my fruit and veggie servings in today was a snap with that fruit platter I put out. And I did great at night indulging in any of the soda I had available for guests to drink - I stuck with water.
Just a note to end the night - for those in the military, or with family in the military, as well as to those who may have lost friends, family, or co-workers in the 9/11 Attacks 10 years ago, your courage is inspiring. My brother is currently on his 6th tour in 10 years to the Middle East and he is only a reservist. I don't know that I could ever stand up and put myself out their the way our troops do everyday. It is because of the battles you endure, whether as a member of our military, or just a family member or friend, that we all have the freedoms we have today. Our country lost almost 3000 lives on September 11th, 2001, and have lost thousands since in the war against terrorism. My heart and thanks go out to all of you, not just today, but everyday. So many people come together on this day every year, but the fact is that this war hasn't been won yet and there are still men and women putting their lives on the line everyday to ensure that we win in the end. You truly are HEROES!!!
