As a tribute to those who lost their lives on 9/11 a Healing Fields display was set up in my town in front of a local elementary school. There were 3000 8 ft tall American flags placed in the field by the road. Each flag had a card attached to it in memory of someone who died that day, wheather they be at Ground Zero, Pentagon or Shanksville. As you drive in to the school this is the site you see.
I walked through the flags and the first flag that I stopped at to check the card belonged to a New York City firefighter. This is his flag and the card attached with alittle info about him.
Also in attendance were members of the Patriot Guard Color Guard. These guys do so much to honor those who paid the ultimate price. They ride to honor and to protect.
It was a special day to honor those who lost their lives that day and to also honor those who are first responders now. I know several of the police officers in this area and I thanked them for what they do every day. I also thanked the local firefighters (all volunteers) for what they do. I took my mom after church last night so she could see it. It was both eerie and beautiful to see the flags lite by the floodlights and surrounded by darkness.
