Keep Your Eyes on the Prize

Wednesday, September 07, 2011

As we continue our journey along the path toward good health, fit bodies and minds and a more active life, staying focused on where we're heading keeps us from wandering too far away from the "straight and narrow." I recently had occasion to temporarily let unusual circumstances take my attention away from the importance of getting my exercise each day and watching my portions of food. As a result, I gained 5 lbs in a week! What a shock when I got on the scales for my weekly weigh-in. In the past, I would have thrown in the towel and said to myself, "I've blown it - I might as well just forget trying to be slender." However, since I've been on maintenance for 4 years now, I've learned that a slight bend in the road doesn't mean you have to detour off into the jungle. I simply decided to add 10 minutes to my walk each day and cut out desserts for a week. I discovered that if I can accumulate 5 lbs in a week, I can also get them off in a week. This week, when I weighed in, I was right back at my goal. Hallelujah!
