Hike for Mike

Tuesday, September 06, 2011

This is a movie trailer made from our last hike. This is my first atempt at a video blog. Hope it works.

"Hike for Mike" is a anual hike that we started 4 years ago. It is normally on Mt Hood doing the Cairn Basin hike. Mike is my brother in law and has Amylodosis it's like a cancer of the blood, and there is no cure and it is eventually terminal. They can 'treat it' and he has been in treatment for over 4 years now. The average life expectancy after diagnosis is 2 years. We are very happy with his progress and the time Go has given him.

Mike has always had a thing for Mt Hood. He doesn't even live here. Years ago he and my husband hiked around Mt Hood. It took them three years to do it. They did half of it one year, he had a kidney transplant the next year and they finished the hike out on the one year anniversary of his transplant. BIL had the transplant, and it was not related to the Amylodosis.

4 years ago when we did the first hike I fell in love with long day hikes! I had backed packed before but hated it. I liked day hiking and hiking for 8 miles in a day and then sleeping in my trailer. That began the first part of my weight loss journey.

This year due to a lot of things going on Hike for Mike was not organized. My BIL wouldn't be able to make the trip to support the team. This weekend the camp grounds that we stay at go evacuated due to a big fire on the mt. Ect. The hike was not to be.

Saturday while pouting about my ducks loss we came up with the plan to have everyone go on a hike on Monday morning. We didn't think any one would show up. They are flakes that way. Well surprised us they showed up. I had extra t-shirts from last years hike and so I gave every one a t-shirt and said this is for Mike. And we hiked.ment

We took some video and my husband made a movie trailer out of it. It's not long (this blog was longer than the video) There may be a longer one made later.

I LOVE your video. What a beautiful place to hike and it REALLY makes me want to get out there.

I'm glad Mike is doing ok and I wish him as much time as possible while being as comfortable as possible.

    Thanks for posting!
