When you know it went too far....

You know, I haven't always been fat. When I married my wife, I weighed 184#. When I joined the Army, I weighed 194#. When I left the Army, I weighed 235# (and that was because I purposely gained 15# in case they tried to call me back in). But, for nearly 35 years, and especially from age 13 to 35, I was in pretty good shape. From 22 to 35, I was rock hard and doing morning calethentics, running 2 miles, biking 30 miles, swimming a mile, none of it was hard.

Over the years, even as I added on the weight, I always kidded myself that I was pretty athletic for a 'fat guy'. I mean I still played football, I was a little slower, but my moves were there, I still had 'the touch' catching, throwing, and running. I moved really good for a big guy.

So, as I have begun what I consider my final march to glory, I ran onto a little exercise program. It sounded too easy. 15 kettlebell two-hand swings, 15 burpees (with no push-up), then 14, then 13, and a countdown to 1.

Well, I have been avoiding this little regime, something in my head telling me that my mind wasn't right. And today, I found out what it was.

I tried to do a SINGLE burpee this morning in my 332# glory. And I found out that just doing that was difficult. I rested and then did 2. Rested, and then did 3. Finally, I did five in a row, but water freezes faster than I moved.

Yup, my fitness level stinks. I only have myself to blame, but the good part is at least I am out there doing it. And I suspect that by my birthday, I am going to be able to complete that workout regime, and I'll know that the changes I am making, will be worth it.

Water freezes faster than I move too! But, at least we're trying, right?

Thanks, not much else I can do but fix it. I hate the thought of how long that will be.

But, like a friend once said. The time will pass whether I work on it or not, the difference will be in the results.

I like your writing style - something in it resonates with me; not sure what it is, maybe the honesty and openness of it.

I don't think it will be too long before you look back and read what you wrote so that you can remember what it was like beginning - you'll be back to your fitness level pretty quickly I reckon emoticon

It's actually helped me to get my butt back into gear again too!
