Back to healthy eating tomorrow

Well, my long weekend didn't go so well in terms of eating healthily. I think the main problem was that I didn't eat good food regularly enough, and so I got hungry & run down enough to believe my justifications that some chocolate (not the healthy kind) wouldn't hurt because, after all, I missed lunch, or that the corn chips were a good idea... emoticon emoticon Etc. etc. Sigh. Also, there was a bit of boredom involved, and the stress of my mom being in the hospital. There's the worry about mom, not to mention that I find visiting at the hospital quite stressful. Not a good combination, I guess, BUT ... I could have done things differently.

On the positive side, I DID get an hour of walking in today, which is good. emoticon

But I'd be feeling better now if I could look back on a weekend of healthy eating also. Oh well, upward and onward. :) I want to learn from this experience, and find better ways to keep on track next time.

Tomorrow is the start of a new week, and the start of the fall school year (I work at a university), so it's a great time to start out on the right foot again. I hope there are lots of other Sparkers with me -- We can do this!!! p.s. Any tips for staying on track during those hard times are appreciated. :) emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Holidays are so hard. I think we all slip up a bit. Good for you for recognizing it is a new day and a new beginning each day!!!

    Hi Sheila, There are lots of suggestions/hints/ideas for proper eating under stress, but I confess I'm not always very good with following through. However, having said that, some things that have worked for me (off and on, mind you): drink a tall glass of water; take a brisk walk (doesn't have to be a long one); decide why I want to eat - if I want 'crunch' I may eat some celery or carrots, and remind myself WHY I want to eat more healthfully. Those reasons are personal for each of us, but I want to be thinner and more healthy and I really like the way I feel when I am doing as I need to. to be accomplish that. I also try to keep in mind that as we age, our bodies no longer react like they used to: it's much harder to lose weight, sores don't heal as fast, etc. I don't want to depress you, but If I'd started my healthy quest 45-50 years ago, I wouldn't be in the (round) shape I am today. emoticon

    Always keep in mind that you have at your fingertips the resources of SP and all your fellow Sparkers. We all want to succeed and to see others do the same.

    Amen to new beginnings! Enjoy the re-entry at school... I used to work at a University and it's hard not to get caught up in the excitement and newness.
