Week 6 of marathon training and a review of my goals

I have to say that I am so proud of my self for staying on track! I haven't missed any of my training runs (except for those minor shin splints) I haven't bailed out short on a single long run and I haven't cut my pace short when I feel lazy. I really don't have room for goofing off with this training plan because I set some pretty lofty goals for my self. Ones that I am going to have to revisit.
August proved to be a successful month logging 75.01 miles and reaching the mileage goal I had set. YAY! I haven't really been to the gym much for ST which I really need to go. I was attending spin class about 2 days a week until the 6am spin instructor left leaving nobody to fill the spot. I am so bummed! I really loved that class! They offer 2 evening classes during the week but they are my run days. I don't want to risk injury by spinning then running back to back. My legs would be totally spent!
Next week I will run 3-5 miles on Tuesday and Thursday and have a long run of 14 miles on Saturday. I am really looking forward to it!
My goals: I set the goal of running a 5hr marathon at Space Coast on the 27th of November. I know this is asking a lot because my current marathon PR is 5:42. With that being said, I have also never run a marathon for me. The 4 prior marathons I ran with others or a group, which was fun and makes the time go by a lot faster but I really want to see what I've got and give it my all. When I set the current PR, it was a training run for goofy. We were set for a 22 mile run but decided to do the marathon for added support, we got to 23 and decided not to push it and walked a lot of the remainder of the race and still managed to knock 23 minutes off of my first PR. My theory is that if I train properly and run hard that I should be able to have a really good PR. I am really starting to doubt the 5hr mark though.
Mary copied a training plan for a 5hr marathon for me. It calls for long runs with a avg pace of about 11:49. That is tough, especially in the heat and humidity of summer in Florida.
I have been training hard and I know it will pay off, just how much will it pay?
Mary also suggested that instead of setting one goal for my self, set 3. I really like this idea! SO, my new goals are:
1) run a 5:30 and be happy
2) run a 5:15 and be really happy
3) run a 5hr and blow it out of the water!
Now that I have my goals in check I feel much better about training. Most of my long runs have been averaging a 12mm to a 12:30. I am really hoping that the cooler weather that November brings will give me that added boost to run that 11mm range that I want.
My other goal was to be at my goal weight by the marathon. I still haven't lost a pound and I have 28 to lose. I have been logging everything for a week and for the most part staying in range. I know I can't lose that much in 2.5 months but I still need to get it off. I did get my thyroid back in check so that's a plus. It took more than 6 months and an added 10lbs but, it's good now.
Those that are praying for Julie, she is still fighting! Please keep praying for her!
Anyway. That's all I have for now.
Have a great holiday weekend and happy training!
