More about Maine...

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

We are going up to Lubec, ME, the easternmost point in the US (the first place the sun rises). It's a small town, depressed economically (In fact I'm not sure what to expect when we get there- been 3 years since our last visit there and things have just gotten worse country-wide), but abundant in amazing natural beauty.

Lubec is off of the Fundy Bay, right across the bridge from Campobello Island (home of Roosevelt International Park). Our rental house is right off Johnson Bay- it's a perfectly LOVELY place ( pics here: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjv8DhAk ). I am overwhelmed by my desire to pack "stuff" to make the most of my "off my feet" time, and the lack of time and ability (due to my foot) to properly choose and/or prepare the right stuff for the trip.

Also, the idea of vacation is to get AWAY from the normal activities of one's life, so the thought of bringing even "good" stuff from home (scrapbooking, reading, computer stuff....) to keep me busy isn't inspiring me one bit....

I'd much rather get out and walk and hike and explore the area like we've done twice before. But I am trapped because I cannot do the same things I did previously - if I overdo (and I'm not even sure how much walking/activity is "overdoing it") it I'll be in pain during vacation AND also risk further exacerbating my injury, and what benefit would that bring me long-term? I keep trying to convince myself how much I can accomplish with this "forced laid back vacation", but as it is staring me in the face now, my convincing is not very convincing....

I hope that tomorrow will be better.. early morning appointment to get another injection in my foot - could make things better or not....

....I really just want to go home and take a nap and sleep off my slight depression (sleeping being better then eating)...but ACK.. I NEED TO START PACKING!
