Hello September...goodbye scale...

At the end of every month, I get my measurements and body fat percentage done. Before I talk about this month, let's go back to the beginning of time...well, to January of 2010 anyway.

Weight: 241.5
BMI: 39
Fat: 50.3% (this means I had 121.48 lbs of fat and 120.02 lbs of muscle)

I'm not going to list all the measurements, because they are really inconsequential at this point. Here are today's numbers:

Weight: 230.5
BMI: 36.7
Fat: 36.8% (this means I have 84.8 lbs of fat and 145.7 lbs of muscle)

I know that's a lot of math, so I'll do it for you: on the scale, I have lost 11 pounds since 1/5/10. That's not a lot. BUT...I have lost 36.68 pounds of fat and gained 25.68 pounds of muscle.

Yeah. That's real. That's hard work. That's why I'm hiding the scale for the month of September. I will not weigh myself from September 1st until October 1st.

I would've given up by now if I didn't know that there was more to my body than a number on a hunk of metal and plastic on my bathroom floor.

In other August news:

*We had an earthquake.
*We had a hurricane (well, tropical storm force where I live)
*I ran outside in said hurricane.
*I completed a 5K with my 6 year old daughter.
*I won a free pair of running shoes through a contest on Facebook.
*I knocked off a bunch of shirts while running around the store while testing out said running shoes.
*I registered for my 3rd 5K
*I met one of my Spark friends in person for the first time.
*I've run/walked/ellipticalled/biked 45.8 miles and burned 13085 calories this month (the most ever)
*I've exercised 23 consecutive days
*I registered for a Warrior Dash

I'm pretty proud of August, especially considering at the beginning of the month I was sidelined with tendinitis in my ankle.

    great work! I would love to figure out my % of fat and muscle too as I don't lose very well either. I have lost inches, lots of them but only 12 lbs by the scale!

    Hope your last day of August is excellent!

    September will be a great time and also a challenge!

    How do you get your body fat "done" every month? Do you do the "water tank" testing to see what it really is? I've read that the bathroom scales aren't reliable at all, so I'm just curious. When I bought a new scale last year, I got a digital one but I didn't bother to get one that claims to know how much fat you have.

    Way to go!! I love that you aren't going to check the scale. That math really breaks it down, doesn't it? Congratulations to you for all of your hard work. You have the proof in the numbers that it works!!

    I've gone almost 2 months weighing myself only once after being a daily weigher for nearly 30 years. It was a great decision! I no longer have my mood for the day determined by an inamimate object! Great work on reshaping your body!

    Wow, this is why I don't like scales, and I don't weigh myself every friggen day anymore. I weigh myself usually every 3-4 weeks and keep it at that. You miss the whole picture with scales, and look at those numbers! Beautiful! Keep up the good work, you are doing awesome.

    Great post. And great job with the "muscle gain/fat loss." I have to remind myself to not be a slave to the scale. I just don't know if I could put it away for a month. I'm happy when I only step on it a couple times a week....

    I want to get my body fat percentage done by a professional. And now you're inspiring me to!! I've lost around 10 pounds since the beginning of the year, but FEEL like I've lost more. Meaning I feel better, and think I look better. Definitely more than 10 pounds worthy.

    This is my favorite: "I knocked off a bunch of shirts while running around the store while testing out said running shoes." LOL. OK, that one makes me laugh. Great job on everything you've done this month. Bring on September!!

    You give me hope my scale barely moves a 1-3 pounds a month lately, yet I lose an easy 5.5 inches a month. I only weigh once a month and put very little stock in the evil beast.

    Congrats on all your accomplishments. I need to get all my measurements done and written down. I've been sliding so I want to get definite numbers so I can look back and say to myself. See this is where I was, even if I feel like I haven't moved I'm further on the path then I thought.
