This Is Not Just About Calories

Friday, August 26, 2011

I know I've been going about this all the wrong way, up until recently I was only focused on my calorie intake, I didn't get about the fat or protein or carbs. I've realised however, that if I want to be healthy, I need to make sure I'm eating the right amount of everything.

It's quite annoying as for a long while, I've only been putting the calorie count into the food I've entered into the Spark food tracker. I'm slowly adding the rest of the details as, and when, I can.

Today is the first day that all my food has all the categories filled in, and I'm within the right range for them all.

It took me a long time to get the SP tracker set up with 'my' plan and portions, but once I did - easy peasey. It's worth it - just keep chipping away at it. As for the 'essential three,' I totally agree with you: kind of fiddly, but important to your overall / longterm health. IMHO!

You are definitely on the right track. When you don't get enough fat you don't feel satiated (which can make you want to eat moer) and when you don't get enough protein your muscles can't do their job, and when you don't get enough carbohydrates you can become tired from decrease in blood sugar. Its all important!

I started by focusing only on the calories, as well. However, I found that if I limit my carbs and increase my protein, I have more stamina in my workouts. You may want to consider tracking the protein to make sure you get enough if this is an issue for you.
