Getting It Back

Monday, August 22, 2011

My chip time for the 5K on Saturday was 30:47; my personal best is 28:46. You might think I'd find this discouraging, but not so. I actually feel excited that I ran that well so easily. I took lots of walk breaks and was hardly even breathing hard. I thought I had run well considering my recent health challenges.

To achieve a personal best on Saturday September 3rd I'll need to cut 2 minutes and 2 seconds off that time. Think I can do it. Today at the gym I warmed up 10 minutes, restarted the treadmill, and ran 3.1 miles in 27 minutes and 55 seconds. I was breathing hard, especially about the half mile mark, but by mile 2 I felt like I was in a rhythm and could go on a long time. I spent nearly 15 minutes cooling down and extra time stretching. It just felt so good I didn't want to stop! I ran today, though, at 0 incline and a couple times I held on. My next goal is to make that time with no holding on and a neutral incline of 2.

One concern is that I weighed more this morning than I have all of 2011 and am over my "red line" weight. Perhaps I rewarded myself with more food than I burned in my race. Not perhaps. I did. I'm not freaking. I'm just going to focus on eating healthy and it will work out.

So, as far as the running, I'm back. As far as the weight, I'll get it back!!

You are wise to ease back into running to prevent injury. Still, your time at the race was great! Keep up the good work!

Congratulations! I know you worked hard to get where you are and it shows that when you set a goal you achieve it! So, I'm sure you'll shave off those couple of minutes.

Your body might be holding water right now with what you put it through. Either way - I'm sure it will come off soon.

    Take care and good luck!
