If I only had an off switch for my brain!

Monday, August 22, 2011

So much going on between work and home, church and family, friends and life in general. I think if my brain had an off switch, I'd be sleeping a lot better.

Lack of sleep means carb cravings for me and it was bad all weekend. The melatonin isn't helping right now so I may have to resort to a couple of Tylenol PM's tonight. Between Fri-Sun nights, I totalled about 16 hours of sleep. I can do ok with 1-2 bad nights in a row, but bring on the 3rd night in a row and my brain turns to mush. Or maybe polenta. I like the idea of polenta brain better!

On the upside, I didn't cave in too badly to the cravings over the weekend so that made me feel good. I also exercised both days. (So much for that helping me sleep!)

After work today, I have an hour or so of volunteer work at church and then home to walk the dog, workout and get some supper going.

Tonight's menu is rockfish (striper) with a light crab bechamel sauce over brown rice. Side dishes of steamed vegetables - zucchini, yellow squash and cauliflower as well as roasted tomatoes with a sprinkling of fresh grated parmesan.

Boy, I know how hard it is to turn our thought processes off especially at night. I have been there many times. The thing that helps me is visualization where I try to think about a peaceful and restful place. Maybe this will help for you.
