Rejected Yet Again

Hello everyone,
I hope you all are having a great Spark day! I'm maintaining. I'm feeling very discouraged and disappointed today. I'm a state worker and have been for 21years, and no matter what I do or how I present myself I can't seem to get a more professional job. I get good interviews with misleading results. I've passed all the civil service test and earned an associate degree and bachelors degree, still nothing. I'm beginning to think it's because of my size. They can't fire me because i'm a good and dedicated worker, but they sure don't have to promote me. Maybe i'm wrong, who knows. Anyway, keep me in your prayers, i'm trying hard to deal with this rejection.

    Irma, it has nothing to do with your size, believe me. My brother in law also works for the State and he is very thin and he has been working with the state for years now and hasn't moved up to high either. Just hang in there.

    I hate to say it but you may be right.
    The same thing happens to us older people when we try to get or advance in a job.
    It's hidden discrimination, alright.

    I understand what you are going through. I have been passed up for an assistant managers job 3 times now for the company I work for. I was crushed each time I did not get it but I also know God is in control and I had to remind myself that maybe part of the rejection was that it was just not in Gods timing for me to have that job at that particular time and He was protecting me from something i cant not foresee.

    I also know my weight does and did play a part because there are some things i physically can not do that may have hindered my job performance in that new position. I also know that most of my co-workers hear me saying I am trying to loose weight and I want to lose weight but they never see me getting any smaller and still at times choosing really unhealthy foods to eat at work so that really does send a message to my boss's....it says to them....she says on thing and does another...how honest is she, how reliable is she and does she really mean what she says.

    I no longer really desire a management position in my company now but I have learned that the boss is listening to what I have said and seeing if i can follow through with action that matches my words and now I am finally doing what i say and they will now begin to see results and not just empty words and who knows what God has planned once I get my life back in balance and begin to show that i do care about myself enough to get my health back.

    Keep your head up!!! Remember God knows what door needs to be opened for you & what doors need to stay closed. Just because your heart may desire it does not mean that's what God desires for you! Hang in there & be thankful for still having a job when so many would love to be in your place~ working.

    I read an article on that recently and it sure happens to people everyday. I'm sorry that you have to go through this type of discrimination. It's really their loss.

    Try to stay positive and keep yourself busy doing things that you love doing.

    I'm so sorry to hear that. I know it's got to be frustrating. Like ChangeIsGood recommended, I would contact your interviewer and ask for suggestions for improvement. I have worked in a position that required me to conduct interviews and you might be surprised at some of the things an interviewer "counts off" for, such as, hesitancy in answering questions, using lots of interjection phrases like uh, umm, hmm, etc., being fidgety and other such things that you may have and not realize that you do.

    Anyway, I'll be praying for you. Hang in there and keep following your plans to improve your health because improvements there influence so much more than you may imagine.

    Hang in there! Just keep taking care of yourself. And when you have an interview and feel like it went well and you don't get the job, call the interviewer and ask if there was something that you need to work on to improve your chances next time you apply for a job. Ask them to please be specific on how you can increase your chance next time. And keep it pleasant. No accusations. If they don't give you anything, ask specific questions. Tell them you aren't trying to cause trouble, you just need to hear from them what might be holding you back. The feedback you get might be just what you need to get ahead. Plus it will end on a pleasant note and if you apply for something else with the same interviewer again, they will remember that you are trying to make changes to improve yourself and it might help!
