Coming Back Home.....

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

Well, here I am again ... after being AWOL for far too long ... again ... sigh... But I guess the good thing is that I AM back here (and committed to a healthier lifestyle) again. So no looking back, just looking forward!

I'm looking at trying to reduce my carbohydrate intake (just REDUCING carbs, definitely not super-low or no carbs) ... does anyone have any input / suggestions on that? I'm thinking that just trying to vastly reduce highly processed carbs would likely be a positive thing for me. "Just", I say!! ha ha. Easier said than done, but here goes!

It's very refreshing to come back to SP after my ... errrr... SP "vacation", and to see familiar names and faces here ... thanks for your consistency, and the encouragement that gives others like me. :)

Take care, everyone.

So glad you are back from your "vacation"! Take it slow kiddo and make permanent changes. For example, try eating more complex carbs and skipping the highly processed ones and the high glycemic ones. I have made many changes since joining SP 5+ yrs ago and find it much simpler to make changes that I plan to keep for the rest of my healthy life!

Sheila - welcome back. Your right to not look back but to look forward. This is the best time to come back because with all the fresh summer produce out there it will be easy to get a grip on the lower carb diet. Instead of cutting high carb foods out just cut down the portion size. If you are used to a cup or more of rice, noodles, potatoes, then go to half of a cup. Remember carbs in fruits and veggies are not bad for you. This is the approach that I have taken and it is working for me.

    Good to see you again.

Hit the fresh fruits and veggies right now while they are locally available. And go for more whole grains, both those things help a lot I find. The tracking is really important for me. Wish I could lose pounds as easily as I accumulate spark points! Welcome back to the site. emoticon

Eat more whole grains instead of refined. Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables--easier to do in the summer. Remember your portions on things like beans potatoes corn etc. These are healthful foods, but 1/2 cup is usually a serving. Include some protein at every meal to help keep you full. These are my tips, anyway.

If you're looking for something a little structured, the Eating Clean diet might work. There is a website with recipes, a magazine, and/or you could probably find the books at the library.

It's great to see you back Sheila! And we never look back and only concentrate on one day at a time. I suggest you take small steps and decide on changing perhaps one thing at a time. Cutting out the 'bad carbs' is easier said than done. I find that tracking your food gives you a picture of where things are good and not so good. Good luck and emoticon back!

I have been back for a few days as well. I had lost 24 pounds, but put on 10 over the Summer! I was so mad when I weighed myself.
The good news is, that I - WE are back now and that's what counts!
Hang in there and never give up! :)
