A question for the runners out there...

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

I've been to many websites and many sparkpages over the past few weeks and seen many "before" and "after" photos. I've come to a conclusion that I want honest answers/opinions about. Here it is...

I've notice that people who lost weight by exercising by elliptical gliders, bikes, stair masters, etc. (no running) look good.

Then you see the photos of people who use running as their main exercise. Now they look GREAT. It seems they managed to shed those "fat" rolls better then those people who don't run.

So, the questions is this--do you think running helps burn the fat and help get rid of the fat (belly fat, rolls on the back, "thunder" thighs, etc.) or do you think they just have some kick ass metabolism?? Do you enjoy running? emoticon

I never thought I would be a runner. I started seriously running in Jan 2011 and have been doing at least one 5K a month. Those are a lot of fun. I am now training for a 10K and have signed up for a half marathon in Feb2012 that I will start training for after the 10K. Running to me is easier to squeeze in then going to the gym and it is free. I still think you need to do some strength training for your muscles. Still working on getting that squeezed in. So yes I guess I do like running now. I find myself looking forward to it and I feel it has helped. My metabolism isn't the fastest so the weight is coming off slow but it is coming off and so are the inches.

I never thought I'd like running but I've found it to be a rewarding exercise! Every time I run father or faster than I did before I get a great sense of accomplishment. I like to think that running has had a great impact on my weight loss too. I signed up for my first 5k and training for it has kept my butt in gear and motivated so that I make sure to get in the running at least 3 times a week.

I've just started to enjoy running, but I think that running burns more fat. Because before we ran for fun, we as humans only ran to live. You know running away from something that wants to eat us while we gathered our food. And logically a skinny person should be able to run faster than someone that is holding on to more weight. So your body's natural reaction would be to let go of the weight, so you can run for your life and survive. lol At least that is my crazy way of looking at it.
