Dad Update

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

Well, I think we caught things in time so he won't have to be hospitalized. The dr's staff worked him in this afternoon and he checked him out. His lungs have not filled up with fluid yet so he is increasing his "water" pill - a double dose for next 3 days and I have to report to him on Thursday evening. If this doesn't do the trick, he gave me a prescription for a stronger diuretic and we will use it if this doesn't work. He was quite pleased that I caught this early and dad is happy he didn't have to go to the hospital. I guess that is my good news for the day.
I worked with another lady for nearly 5 hours before we went to the dr auditing our social clubs books and we still aren't done. We really have some problems with their record keeping. We haven't found anything major, but the treasurer isn't making sure she has a receipt for everything and we want to rework some of the forms because they aren't complete. My next task is to rework the form so it is easier to follow.
This evening we got the news that DH's son and wife are not going to be able to come to see us. That wasn't the news we wanted to hear as we were looking forward to their visit - especially since we can't get away to go north to see any of our family. My brother's don't seem to realize (at least they don't offer to come and stay with dad) that we are tied down here and can't get away to see our family.
Ah, things will get better-I refuse to let this get me down too low-now if I can get DH to cheer up all will be OK!

I did not realize your dad had fallen ill. Great news that you caught it in time! It's always best to stay out of the hospital -- especially for the elderly:)

Perhaps you need to gently talk to your brothers about 1) giving you a break and 2) coming to visit because you cannot leave.

I hope you have a great week --

I agree that your Dad is very fortunate that you are there to help him.

My husband is sad when our daughter goes back to Kansas. He really would like for her to live close by. It is just something that takes time.

What a blessing you are to your Dad! Call your brothers and ask them to schedule some time with their Dad. Hopefully, they respond positively!

Your Dad is very lucky to have you there and looking after him - he won't be with you forever - so you are making the right decision to sacrifice now and miss seeing other family while he needs you.

Very selfless on your part -- not many are able to put others' needs ahead of their own.

The world needs more people like you!

Glad to hear the positive update as well!

Glad to hear you were able to catch this early so your dad didn't have to go in the hospital. Keeping you & and your dad in my prayers. Sorry to hear that you don't have any help from your brothers. That's to bad your DH's son & wife can't come for a visit.
