Not Much Happening Today

Spent time cleaning a bit and went grocery shopping; both of which are not at the top of my favorite things to do list. I really dislike grocery shopping. I always have a list and I can stick to it pretty well, but what seems like endless walking, reading labels and putting things in the cart is just monotonous. There are times it is overwhelming, too many people, too much stuff, too much everything; it sets me up for an anxiety attack and I have to leave the store before checking out and just leave my cart full of food right in the isle. It’s horrible. Then there is the ever rising cost of food. I see dollar bills just floating out of my hands. Parking in the furthest corner of the lot, I like to pretend that schlepping the stuff to the car and in to the house is a game. I pretend the bags are weights and do curls, shrugs, lunges, whatever I can think of to get the most out of the activity. So at least it’s not a totally wasted effort. Once in the house there is putting things away. There is not much room in my kitchen and since I dislike going to the store I always buy a lot at one time so I play another game trying to solve the puzzle of where things are going to fit in the cupboards. Once that is accomplished I begin cleaning vegetables so they are ready to eat when I want them, snacking along the way. The next question out of someone’s mouth is what’s for dinner? I really dislike that question especially because by this time I am pooped, being so out of shape. I tell them whatever they want to fix which always quiets everyone and then I have a light lunch and take a nap.

    Someone told me or I read somewhere can't remember which that it is Always better to take your cart and go around the outside aisle of the supermarket as that is where the healthiest food is. fruits and veggies, meats, dairy , and bread (freshly made or with 3 grams or more of fiber). Then if you need the inner aisles attack them last as they will be quick and painless.

    Funny I remember I had a really heartbreaking experience a long time ago and felt very depressed for a long while. I remember feeling dead inside really. And I will never forget how just going to this huge supermarket (with more focus on fruits and veggies as you could get them cheaper then in regular supermarket) I would travel the different aisles and look at the vibrant colors and shapes and my heart was reawakened by the vibrant fruits and veggies and how utterly wonderful it was. That was a start for me to a journey of healing. So ever since then I love the supermarket. Just sharing a different take with you.

    I wish I had a solution to the grocery store blues, but, I hate shopping, too. :/

    One day, we will find a SParker with *all* the answers to the "How to shop when you hate shopping," questionaire.... Until then... there's bulk shopping once a week...

    I also dislike grocery shopping. I like that you have games for it and might have to try them out! I also get anxiety in stores sometimes. I have found that shopping at a smaller grocery store helps me with that, but you may not have an option. Now, I pretty much know where everything is and that helps too. I hope you got some rest!
