I Gave Up On Me or How My Beloved Carbs Bit Me In The Bum

Friday, August 05, 2011

I haven't been on SparkPeople for about 6 weeks now. Back in the spring things just started to go pear shaped with problems heaped on top of problems and I just gave up on me. I had been starting to struggle a bit with maintaining my healthier lifestyle even before that.

I am amazed at how easy it was to quietly slip back into old eating habits. Fruit and veggies went out the window and all those yummy carbs that I CRAVE started packing on the pounds. So I have gone from the 159 pounds that I worked so hard to attain up to 174. At least I am thankful that I am not back up to the 200 pounds I started SP with.

Exercise has been a struggle too because part of my pile of problems has been a pulled muscle and spasms in my back. But I am trying to get that daily exercise in, I just don't enjoy it anymore. (Yea, surprisingly, I had kind of grown to enjoy it.)

I never did attain my goal weight of 149. And right now getting down to 149 seems impossible to me. So, I am going to start trying to take baby steps to get back to my healthier eating and exercise.

The main thing I have learned the past few months is that if I don't work at this constantly I will slip back into old habits and lose everything I have worked so hard for.

I have a lot of hard work ahead of me.

Now we are even more alike. I started where your weight trackers shows you did (or maybe a little heavier) and now we are the same weight. (I never did reach the 160'2, 150's or 140's though.) I was pleased with your progress knowing that you have been "hanging in there" and had gotten down to the low 170's! (Then I read that you had gotten further and are discouraged to find the carb craving taking over. And not caring enought to tack action with how good your brain was telling you exercise felt.)
Please remember being healthy isn't a race but a way of life. As you listen to your mind (exercise and observe your food) the carb craving should resolve itself. At least that is what is happening with me right now. Please pick up the exercise again, inspite of life's other cries for your attention (as you already know how good that has the potential to feel).
You were one of my first "noticed" friends on SP years ago. Please, start moving forward again. If you feel like you are standing still you are likely slipping further down hill. Put one foot in front of the other, for your health, now, please :-).

Glad you didn't really give up! You took a break and now you are back. You know that you can lose the weight! You have done it before, and now you will do it again. Now you have proof that this really is a complete life style change!
    Happy New Start!
I hope your back will soon be back in order and we will see you on WIO. A new Monopoly Challenge starts on Monday. Check it out. Some of us will not be able to do the challenge every day due to schedules or vacations, but a lot of this challenge is luck, so maybe you will be lucky.
Congratulations on your Do Over! emoticon

Yesterday is gone and can't be retrieved, but today is the beginning of your future. You can make the most of your future by taking baby steps. Don't think of your goal as 149 pounds, think of it as 170 pounds. That's within reach and doable. Once you get there, then change your goal to 165 pounds. Before you know it you will have achieved your weight goal. Make sure to have a plan that includes both exercise and a meal plan. You can do it. I believe in you. emoticon

Stick with Alicia, one step at a time. Don't let SP overwhelm you too! You've done it before, you can do it again.
