August 2nd

I'm still hanging in there. My day started off good - I was up and had most of my housework done before 10am when Tony left for work. The majority of the afternoon I relaxed and worked on some genealogy stuff.

When I finally realized I'd been a bum for too long, I did the 4-mile Walk Away the Pounds and about 10 mins of strength training. I've learned a lot about strength training since I started using the Wii Fit - the biggest thing being that if you take your time, you seem to notice your muscles working a lot more. A month ago I would spend 20 minutes and get through a full strength workout. Today, I spent 10 minutes and only did calf raises and squats (and without Wii Fit).

Knowing that my goal is to do 60 mins of cardio on any day that I do it, I didn't stop with the 4 miles (it left me at 55 mins). I just finished doing the long distance Free Run and Island Run with my Wii Fit. That put me at 70 mins of cardio for the day and over my 10000 steps. YAY! My eating has been better today - lots of protein. I'm moving slowly on my water, but I know that I'll have it done long before bedtime.

Early sign-up for BLC17 started today (open only for BLC16 members)... after much debate as to whether or not I was going to continue, I chose to sign up. I didn't realize that my current team, the Crushing Cranberries, was no longer - they're now the Scarlet Starlets I later found out. My first choice for BLC17 is the Powerful Prism Panthers. They are a maintenance team, full of people who, like me, are close to their goal weight and working toward losing that last few pounds. If I don't make it onto that team, then there are a couple of other choices I had, any of which would be great teams to be on. I'll just have to wait for the final list to come out and see what happens. For anyone who's interested in joining the BLC17, I belive sign-ups start on the 17th.

I'm thrilled that school will be starting in less than 2 weeks - my kids are driving me crazy. On a happy note though, after months of trying to get Keiran interested in using the potty, he spent all day pulling his diaper off and running around in just his undies. And he used the big boy potty twice today - and loved getting M&Ms for it. I know it's not the best choice, but this is a big deal since it's taken so long to get him interested. Plus they don't get candy very often anymore so it's a nice encouraging treat. :)

Congrats on the potty training! We just finished with our 1st child. We used the M&M reward too, but now he doesn't even ask for them anymore!

Wow it sounds like you have several victories to celebrate in your day.
I think the M&M for a reward is ok for the potty training because it is for a very limited time. I did not give my child candy or soda when he was small and now he is able to make wise choices around what he eats and drinks.
I am just beginning to explore my Wii fit but I too like that you can do both cardio and strength training. I wish how ever on the free step you could increase the speed even more as i step fast and even on the highest setting it feels a little slow.
Wishing you another great day tomorrow

Congrats to Keiran for using the potty! We are also potty training. My little one wouldn't do #2 in the potty until just recently. But he has had a couple good days and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am hoping to be down to just one in diapers in the next couple weeks. I will need to use the sticker/chart idea for the next one.

Like you, I didn't want to use food as a reward. I made a day and time chart for my older son and let him choose stickers for #1 and #2 (trucks, as I recall). He loved decorating his chart and wearing his "big boy underwear"! I think we only bothered doing 2 weeks of charts before he was trained.
