Happy 3 year runniversary to me!

Monday, August 01, 2011

When I started my running journey in August of 2008 I struggled to run the 60 second intervals on week one of couch to 5k. I weighed 190lbs and was squeezing my self into a size 14 jeans. I then realized that the next size up was 16. I refused to buy a size 16.
I finished the C25K program in November of 2008 and ran my first 5k with the finishing time of 38:58. Coming across the finish line was so emotional for me. I couldn't believe that "I" ran 3.1 miles without stopping! And I didn't die! LOL! From that moment on I was hooked, I was a runner!
I registered for 5k after 5k loving every minute of it! I was slow but I was doing it!
I wanted to find new ways to challenge my self so I added distance and a year later I fell in love with the half marathon.
Still looking for ways to improve my running I went onto test the marathon waters. Training was hard. I was injured but I did it. I finished my first marathon in April of 2010 and wasn't stopping there. I took on the challenge of earning half fanatics (#647) and marathon maniac status (#3445), and I am not stopping there! I have big goals for my next year of running.
I want to run a sub 5hr marathon and I am close to breaking a 30 minute 5k. I am planning to run my first ultra marathon in the beginning of 2012. I have an aquathlon that I am registering for and who knows what else! The sky is the limit if you set your mind to it. All it takes is a little determination, positive thinking and believing in your self.
I learned that you can make all the excuses in the world as to why you can't do something but it's not until you make the effort and find ways to get it done that you can accomplish things.

My running has gave me so much more confidence in my self. I have lost 45lbs (I gained a couple back thanks to the thyroid) I went from a size 14 to a 6. I have run 10 half marathons, 4 marathons, countless 5k's and distances in between. My running gave me a new view on life and blessed me so many wonderful and inspirational friends.
So cheers to my first 3 year and cheers to many more!
