Negative Comments; Almost set me back!

Monday, August 01, 2011

Hello everyone. Well I had a good weekend. I almost allowed some ones negative comments regarding my nutrition to set me back. I was a little down Saturday and Sunday, but i'm alright now. I had to remind myself that its not about what people say to me or about me. It's about how I perceive and process what is said. So I decided no matter what, i'm going to keep doing what i'm doing for a healthier me.

It amazes me how people think that because you are a big person that all you do is eat, eat , eat and eat all the wrong things. Would it be stupid of me to think that a person who is slim must be slim because all they do is starve themselves.

All this started because I was seen eating some potato chips 2 hours after lunch. I was asked was I hungry and then was told, "that's your problem" The next day I asked for a 8oz. frozen cup, (kool-aid frozen), I was told, "you don't need that." I threw it in the trash! I rarely eat chips and haven't had a frozen cup in months. Why should I have to explain what I eat and why I eat it to anyone. Just seems like I was being judged and that upset me.

I'm sorry, I don't intend to make anyone feel uncomfortable, just wanted to share my feelings with you all because I know you understand and can relate to what I went through.
Thanks for being here to listen. emoticon

NONE has the RIGHT to make any kinda of comment to you about what you eat. You seem like a wonderful person and if anyone can't see that, then I say that's THEIR loss, not yours. I can relate to those kinds of comments because I have struggled with my weight most of my life. And I actually heard those comments from my own stepfather when I was a child. Keep being strong, you can do it. emoticon

It's good to share. Sometimes venting helps relieve stress. I have those issues with my mother. In the past few years she was able to find out what worked for her in terms of weight loss and living a healthy lifestyle.

Now she's into yoga, meditation and pretty much eating a vegetarian diet. She looks great and I'm so happy for her. The problem is she's very critical of what we (my son and I) also anyone else who comes around her, put in our mouths.

It gets discouraging when she makes remarks..."Why are eating that?" "I thought you stopped eating so and so.... You shouldn't let him eat this and that"...My God, enough already.

To be honest I know she does it because she wants us to eat healthy and lose weight. My only brother died from a massive heart attack at 35 and so she's probably afraid that we're heading down the same road. I understand.

But nagging people and making judgmental remarks can backfire. Most of the time when I overeat it's after she's gotten on my nerves with all the critical remarks. I know I can't blame her because I'm in control of my own emotions, but I just get so angry. Unfortunately it's like I'm punishing myself. But I'm getting better day by day.

We can do this...and we will.

Sometimes people are just so thoughtless in what they say. Trying to lose weight is hard enough without people being so negative. Ahhh, just be yourself and move on, you are doing great and with that great personality of yours you will be just fine. Who cares what other people think. You have the right mindset to get the weight off so kuddles to you. Have a wonderful day Irma. :)

You don't have to apologize or give explanation to someone else for what you eat. Most often, people speak without thinking. Give them that look and they won't say it again! :) Be encouraged girl, you are beautiful and always have been since as far back (elementary school) as I can remember. You haven't even aged a bit. You are doing a great job and it helps me so much to stay on track. Thanks for being you!!

I can relate to the things that happened to you this weekend, Irma, and don't let them get you down. Do the people who made the comments know you are working on improving your health? Sometimes people feel that it gives them free reign to "help" you when they feel like you're getting off track. It hurts and they don't always have you're best interests at heart but I just try to forgive them and go on because holding on to that aggravation or hurt only hurts me in the long run.

    Be blessed!
