Getting tripped up

Thursday, July 28, 2011

Yesterday was Week 4 Day 2 of C25k, and it was the worst run yet. I can say that because every other one has been so good. I new it was going to be a challenge when I checked the temp and saw that it was 93 degrees with an air quality alert, but I pressed on. For those unfamiliar with how C25k works, this is the week where I did to reps of the following

3 minute run followed by 3 minute walk
5 minute run followed by 5 minute walk

I made it through all but the final 5 minute run, where I had to walk after 2 minutes. I decided to do that because I felt a headache coming on and didn't want to pass out in the street. It's counterproductive to make myself sick in the name of pressing on.

Also, during this run, I nearly turned my ankle on my previously broken foot while trying to avoid a guy walking his dog, slipped on some gravel, and tripped on some uneven sidewalk. Oof.

The weird thing is that the C25k app says I ran an 11 minute mile, despite having to walk half ot he last run. i felt like I was moving really slowly! This is an improvement for me from the 12:30 min mile I've been averaging.

So, I'm chalking yesterday up to a bad day but moving on. In the future, especially when it's hot like it was yesterday, I'll run on the shady trail I've been running on.

Congratulations on the improved speed and on avoiding serious injury. Even though you didn't feel as good about this run as you wanted to, it really was a success. Just think how well you will do on the next one.

    Best wishes to you.
