Day 42-43 Hobbit Feet Running - My 5K team for the Susan G Komen Race

I have signed my family and myself up for the October 5K for the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure. It gives me a tangible goal for which to work. Yeah, a healthier body is tangible, I guess. Or it will be. But somehow working toward an event at which I must perform and must tell people I will participate in to garner sponsorship seems to be so much more immediate and here. Now.

I am excited. I became even more excited when my kids and my husband told me they wanted to run, too. Then I told my parents. Mom was super supportive. No naysaying. No "are you sure?" No "Do you know how long a 5k is?" She has been concerned about my weight since I was a teenager. It has fluctuated wildly over the last 20 years.

But Dad, while not not supportive, did ask those questions. He may not have said "You can't do that". But it wasn't encouraging. It wasn't "Yay, you're doing something good for yourself." Good thing for me that I'm ornery and have a tendency to work even harder to prove naysayers wrong. It doesn't always work out the best for me (ex-husband being a prime example), but in this case I think it just might.
