Frustrated

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

It appears that I am doing something wrong. I've upped my exercise regime, I'm sticking to my nutrition goals but still the weight isn't coming off. Don't know what I'm doing wrong but it's really starting to get me down. Feel like I'm putting in all this effort and getting nowhere. Anybody got any ideas?
Also does anyone have any information on nutrition in the role of beating depression? Having a tough time recently and just thinking food could well boost my mood but unsure how to approach this.
As always any advice would be much appreciated.

You have already received some fabulous advice, so I will just repeat this part. KEEP GOING! Lighten up your fitness if needed...watch your meals for balance and processed foods...mix up your calorie intake each day and KEEP GOING! I went through a maintenance type phase with my body even though I thought I was doing everything to lose...when I started tracking, changing up my routine weekly and upping my strength training, the scale started moving. You can do it!!

How long as this plateau been going? Since when have you changed the exercise regimen?

It can take time. Your body composition may be changing and you don't even know it.

That said, I know it's frustrating. But you know you're doing the right thing, you're winning.

Seconding the "don't exercise too much." If you're feeling tired or like every workout is too much, may be time to have a break, refresh, get back to it. Also careful of not eating too little - I never believed that until I had a high calorie weekend and then lost more weight the following week than in the previous, "100% good" weeks. And it's happened to me several time. Some people lose more when they keep at the top of the calorie range. Also calorie cycling is supposed to help (eat less some days and more others).

As for depression I know exercising in the morning sometimes helps me with that, when exercising in the evening has made me crash quite badly sometimes - but that's me and everybody's different. As for food, I know dark chocolate is supposed to be good for you (magnesium). Generally switching entirely to whole grain and low glycemic index food has also helped me tremendously - but again, that's just me. I've also heard fish is good because of omega 3, which are supposed to play a role in mood but you'd have to google it, I'm not knowledgeable on the subject.

Keep plugging, I think is the most important part. *hugs*

You are doing nothing wrong, your body is reassessing itself and catching up. Just keep on steadily, don't up exercise too much, you will exhaust yourself to no good effect. Just have a pause.

Food to help depression? I don't know.I suffer with it myself so I would like to know.
