We've just come from two nights camping with our friends at Mississagi Provincial Park. It was a wonderful weekend, absolutely beautiful, not a drop of rain, and just pleasantly warm.
We have our own photos, but they're still on the camera, so I'll be looking at doing a photo blog tomorrow.
Some of you know I was really nervous about this trip, particularly about the nutrition aspect. Well, it went GREAT!! We went grocery shopping with our friend just before heading out to the park. He is studying to be a dietitian/nutritionist, so we had some really healthy choices. For dinner that night we had sausages, cucumber and lettuce. I nixed the white hot dog bun. They pulled out the chocolate chip cookies and potato chips... both are
And I did it... I did NOT EAT EVEN ONE.,. Not even a bite of....
I had packed lots of hard-boiled eggs, chicken breast, pears, nuts etc., so I was able to keep to my 5 meals/day (protein, carb) plan. I also brought along my multigrain pita chips, so if I really felt the need for a snack, or for a starch carb, I could have a serving.
Last night we had pork chop and green beans for dinner.
I did allow myself one cheat "meal" of sorts... Last night during the campfire time we roasted marshmallows and popped Jiffy Pop with the kids. I had about half a small bowl of Jiffy Pop, but I've discovered I don't like the taste... Had some multigrain chips, one s'more made with dark chocolate-coated Digestive cookies, and a few more of those cookies... They are my camping indulgence.
Also had a couple of these...
As for exercise? Yesterday was a GREAT day!! AMAZING in fact.
First I went for a half-hour walk right away in the morning. Then me and my hubby played "Monkey in the Middle" with the kids, and had so much fun tossing the ball around, we are going to get our own to play catch in the courtyard here. Bounced the badminton birdie around too...
BUT the BEST part??
Now this may not seem like much to you, but I would race my friend's little guy to the outhouse... He would ALWAYS win... even when he gave me a head start... his idea completely, such a sweetie! And I wasn't letting him... believe me... I was all out... I was getting smoked by a 5-year-old... but that's okay... I RAN!!
Then me and my friend were taking a walk with the two boys and I suggested we should race, and the boys were all for it, and their mum was like... where to? And I figured, oh we'll just run till we're tired. And she said... how about that stop sign, which was way the heck down... We ran!! I lost!! But I ran the whole way, and I think it's the furthest I've ever run on a flat stretch... only about a minute and a half, but amazing for me.
We also swam... I had wanted a flutter board, but I ended up buying a "noodle."
I LOVE it!! I mean, I can swim, but I felt more comfortable using the noodle.... I could still dog paddle and kick up a storm, but I didn't have to worry about touching the ground, which was yucky seaweed!
We raced in the water too.... so much fun!!
This blog is getting super long, but I just had to tell you all how much fun I had and how I was motivated by knowing I was going to have to blog about the weekend. Honestly I have never played so actively, or had so much active fun in my whole life!!
HOpefully I will have some of those active photos tomorrow!
