A new chapter

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Well I'm no longer a Boy Scout Unit Commissioner with my Ohio Valley District.

I've been a Unit Commissioner for over 8 years and before you all fall out of your chairs - I'm happy about it. I'm still with my Troop but I've been wanting and talking about dropping that part of scouting for over a year now.

The District Commissioner and I talked as we had talked back in February and we're both ok with it. My schedule with my son just didn't allow me to attend their meetings and quite frankly I didn't like our District Exec and/or buy into the direction they were going since we became Ohio Valley 3 years ago.

I also had 4 tough units - with only 1 that was willing to work with me. It will be a challenge to whoever they get to take them over and the guy and I talked that maybe it would be a good idea to not give both to the same person (2 Troops/2 Packs).

This is just one less thing I have to worry about and try to schedule around and maybe with this "burden" gone I will feel more like participating with my own Troop with more of our community service functions that we do.

Oh and I still have the District Commissioner as a friend - he will always be there if I need him for anything.

As they say - when one door closes, another opens (maybe not right away but it will) but right now I like the breather that that closed door has provided.
