So for the last 2+ weeks I have tried 3 different bootcamps. One bootcamp gave a 1 day free to try them out. This bootcamp meets at 9:15 am 2 or 3 days a week at a park and the other 2 or 3 days in a dance studio about 10 miles from my house. I tried it because an old friend from college goes to this bootcamp. I really went to spend time with my friend. But then my friend didn't make it that day. It was an ok workout but it was outside and hot and humid. I had a hard time working out because there was a lot of yoga on a yoga mat over concrete. My knees were not happy. It was funny that a couple of the people knew a teacher at my last school I worked at. Although the bootcamp is only $50/month, once school starts Aug 12, I can't make a 9:15 am workout. It was an hour workout.

The next bootcamp was for a week. It took place at a gymnastic studio about 7 miles from here. I went to the workout at 8 am and one day at 5:30 am. It too was an hour workout. I like the facility but worry about really making a 5:30 workout once school starts. I did that workout for 3 days in a row. But the 3rd day, my thighs were killing me. It was the quads but also apparently my IT bands on the side of my thighs. It was so bad that last weekend, I couldn't walk and had to ice my legs all weekend. I went back last Monday and it started hurting again so I didn't do my last day of that bootcamp. I thought it cost $200/month but it turns out to be closer to $250/month. I don't know if my IT bands hurt because I overused my thighs, I am that out of shape or that I did something wrong and the trainer didn't catch I did it wrong. Again, a funny was that a teacher I worked with 3 yrs ago, works out at this bootcamp. It is the school that I am going back to next year.

The last bootcamp I started last Friday, after deciding to rest from the previous bootcamp the Monday before and the pain with the IT bands. This bootcamp is also a week. It is the closest to my house. It is about 3 miles. This bootcamp is encouraged to go 3 times a week. And the workout is only 30 minutes. This workout is at 6 am, 9:30 am and also 6 pm. I know about 6 people who go to the 9:30 workout. The floor isn't as squishy as the the gymnastics center but he does has yoga mats that fold to protect the knees for pushups. I haven't been able to complete the workout yet but it does seem to be a good workout. My thighs hurt but not the IT bands. I have one more day tomorrow but I talked to the owner yesterday about cost. I thought it cost $100/month. His ad says "limited time - 50% off, 200% guarantee results". Well, it turns out to be $200/month. I said but I thought it was 50% off. He said it is. Are you kidding me, normally $400/month? I went into the wrong field. I got my BS in exercise physiology, I could have done this.

So in the end, I doubt I will do any bootcamp. I can't afford $200/month. I also am unsure I would make an early morning workout. So I am going back to my wii, I will do Walk It Out, restart Zumba and restart my running. All these are free.

    Trying the bootcamps adding some change in the summer and will make it easier to go back to old routines. A little change is good. I couldn't imagine paying so much. A month at a gym doesn't cost so much!

    Good you tried them, but I definitely think they are not worth the cost when there are so many great inexpensive workout videos on the market that you can do anytime that works with your schedule. If you need the motivation of a partner or group, invite some friends to do it with you.

    I admire your investigative energy!!! I'm with you, though -- give me something inexpensive and at my fingertips. I have a treadmill and Wii Zumba game that get plenty of use.

    I understand completely..I am developing my own collection of jillian Micheals DVDs to use at home. Our library also rents DVDs out for free for three weeks just long enough for me to avoid boredom. i have a lifetime gym membership, but use it mainly for free classes or cardio equipment. Do what works for you!!! emoticon

    Wow! very expensive. I can see where working with others would be motivating. My body could not handle the 3x a week water aquatics, so I mostly pick my own machines at the fitness center. emoticon

    You tried, and now have an idea of whats out there. Glad to hear you have already come up with the solution of three free means of exercise. Perhaps you could go walking with a friend, or hiking....
