"A picture of someone who inspires you."

That is a tough one today... there are a lot of people I admire but who inspires me...?

Number one is Mary Kingsley - I read about her when I was in swedish gymnasium and have never forgotten her.

I could picture her sitting in a canoe on Ubanga river in full victorian outfit... ahe was an explorer in a time when exploring were men only... really interesting and ispiring.

The other photo is a group:

These women were liberal and started a school for women on the farm that was owned by one of them. When I was running my paper I thought that if business would prosper and there would be profits to reinvest I would start some sort of intstitution inspird by those women. One third of the year it would be classes for underpriviliged women, one third it would be a meeting place and education for new ideas and one third would be plain hotel business... Never had any profits to spare and maybe I was not strong enough at that time to do it...

Great blog MP! Not surprised your choices are from the sisterhood - love seeing them honoured here - not only are THEY inspiring but you are too. emoticon

PS only just noticed your background with your daughter and dog - nice to see them after reading so much about them. She looks quite grown up relative to the pic in your collection of course - lovely open face.

You have talked about very inspiring and interesting women. It has made me think about who inspires me. Definately my grandmother, most of all. Then I'm drawing a blank until I fast forward many years to sparkpeople, and you are definately one of my inspirations on here.
