stressful day ahead

Thursday, July 14, 2011

I will be starting tomorrow, Friday, as usual with my morning coffee with friends at Dunkin. Then I will be pickin gup my grandkids and heading to the gym for water aerobics. Doesn't sound stressful so far, does it? My daughter and son-in-law will be heading downtown about 10 to the JOI surgical center so my son-in-law can have surgery on his feet. See, he fell from my roof doing a favor for me and managed to not fall on his head but his feet breaking both of his heels. The hardest bone in the body to break and he got them both. He hasn't been able to put any weight on them for nearly 2 weeks and it will be another 8 weeks at least before he can stand at all. Now, think of everything we do throughout the day and imagine not being able to put your feet on the ground even to transfer yourself from a wheelchair to the bed, couch, toilet, car......

This was supposed to be the weekend we all got ready to drive up to Nebraska for my mother's 85th birthday party which also happens to be this daughter's 36th birthday. All my sibling and their families, all of my uncles kids and their families will be there. Even and my dad and stepmom for part of the celebration weekend. Now the birthday girl and her husband will be staying behind while he recuperates and she spends her vacation time from nursing at the hospital to nursing her husband at home. Saturday I will be taking my grandkids to meet their aunt in Tallahassee and she will be keeping them and driving them to Nebraska next weekend. My husband, our youngest daughter and myself will be heading out on Wednesday for the 2 day drive. Hoping for safe travel for all the vehicles driving from Florida and Colorado for a wonderful birthday party and for good healing for my son-in-law.

Kerry, I hope your SIL is not in too much pain. I said a prayer for him today. I hope you are having a much calmer day and relaxing, as the drive up and down could be stressful and dealing with the other drivers on the roads.
Take care my sister and be bless.

I hope you SIL has a speedy recovery. I kinda know what it's like. I broke a heal once and was not able to put my foot down for months. At least I had one good foot though.

The fact that you know it is a "stressful day ahead" is one key, I think, to your ability to handle it. And by handle it, I mean take care of yourself through it all.

My best thoughts to your son-in-law for a full recovery, to your daughter for the patient kindness she needs to provide him as he goes through this and to you for the strength to remain true to your weight-loss program in the middle of such stress.

It sounds so painful and frustrating but thank goodness he didn't land on his head. I'm sure he will heal quickly and they'll be with you in spirit in Nebraska

What a sad day! I'm so glad he wasn't hurt more seriously. It is so hard to have someone hurt when they are doing something nice for you. I hope your trip is fun and your SIL heals well. I hope it is a good time for both of them to spend some time together and enjoy each others company.
