I had to get sick to value my health...

I have a friend with Lyme Disease and she is posting a series of notes entitled 'Lyme Disease Confessions.' This was her confession #24 and it really made me pause to think. She's right. How many people have I known who didn't care about their health until it was too late and they were befallen with a terrible illness. How many people do I know who are currently sick with illnesses that were entirely preventable, had they just taken care of themselves? Was/Is the food really worth it? Were the hours spent on the couch really worth it? Was it really ok just to take a day off, a week off, a few months off of caring about our health and making positive choices about what we put in our bodies? Are we taking advantage of every healthy day that we have? Are we taking it for granted that we will be in mobile, able bodies forever? What would I miss and what would I miss out on if I were to fall ill?
I can't pretend to understand what she is experiencing, but I can learn lessons from her powerful words.
Choices and gratitude. Those are my words for the day.
