The Day After....

Tuesday, July 05, 2011

First I want to thank all of my wonderful Spark Friends for cheering me on yesterday as I ran my 10k! It was an awesome race, I wouldn't have made it through without all of your suppport, and I can't wait for next year.

I even challenged my Mom to make it her long range recovery goal (Just had her knee replaced) and told her I will walk it with her next year! I am going to try and get the whole family in on the action....all 9 of us!

Well - today is the day I am supposed to decide if I am going to undertake the Rock and Roll Half Marathon on August all depended on how I felt with the 10K....and you know what....5 weeks is just not enough time to get me ready ----- If I had some 8 or 9 mile runs under my belt - it would not be a problem....but I don't -- so I might shoot for the one in October.....or wait until next August.

With the kids crazy schedules....running much longer than an hour is going to be a challenge unless I get up at 4:30 in the morning, and lets just face it - me and that hour of the morning only meet if I get a nature call.....we just don't get along.....

So - I am going to run like crazy with my kids on their mountain bike trails, and get good runs in to the ball field as well (I can increase that loop by 3/4 of a mile and up to 2 if I want)....and enjoy the kids and the Summer.

Keeping on with Pushups, BC, Quickfire and everything else to try and tone this old body up - so when 40 knocks on my door in the middle of September I can look it square in the face and say "What's the big deal.....I look better now than I did 10 years ago!"

You made the right choice, but I will miss 'training ' with you... I totally understand, though. You are a rockstar with your 10K time! Wow!! And it sounds like you had a lot of fun doing it too!!! So awesome and that is the best part!!! Getting the whole fam into it next year is a fabulous idea!!!! You are an awesome mom and sounds like you know how to balance it all... It's not a race to get 'races' done... It's the lifestyle you are gaining!!! Happy Sparkaversary too!!! Yay Robin!!!

It will be so fun to have the whole family do the race. I know you have to wait a year but I'm already excited for you!
Your doing the right thing by putting off the Half - for now. Like you said, maybe you can find one in the fall. That will give you plenty of time to increase your miles.
That's the way I feel about 40, too. The number sounds like a true mom age. Oh, well, we don't have to plaster a big 4-0 on our foreheads & no one could ever guess our age since we'll be rockin' our hot bods, LOL!
    emoticon Bring on 40!

Sounds like a great plan - only you can decide if you are ready or not - or if you time will allow the commitment it must take to prepare for a half. So proud of you on the 10K!
And, 40? Ah, I remember that!! LOL
Actually, I took it better than I did when I turned 30 - 30 bothered me - 40 and 50, not so much - by then I was like you, BRING IT ON!

Sounds like a great plan. Congrats on the race. I wish I could get my family to be more active. They wanted to play Uno on Sunday. Um, how many calories do you burn dealing cards??? Ugh!

Keep up the great work. I'm so excited for you!

Sounds like you are on the right track!

WTG on the 10K!! I want to do one, I think, but haven't quite got up the courage yet. I know I can run that far, it's just the competitive thing that gets to me.
