Over flowing energy

Now that school is out and I have caught up on my rest and house work, I have too much energy! I have been working in the yard early in the morning when it is still cool. I go to the pool, do walking videos, read, nap, go to the library, cook and look at Sparkpeople and FB on the computer. It's still not enough!

I don't have to get up early to go to work or go to classes in the evening or study. I get so used to being in a hurry and being tired all during the school year that it is almost a shock when it all stops.

I am kind of lonely too. I have lots of school friends, but none of them live in my neighborhood. It's hard to get together with people, they all have busy lives and small children.

So here I am. My son is out with his friends, hubby is watching TV in the bedroom.

I have been swimming at the local college where my son and I are both taking classes and he is lifeguarding there also. Lap swimming is a solitary sport. I love it and it burn lost of calories, the fat just seems to melt away when I get to swim regularly. My size 8 shorts that I could not wear when school got out I can now wear comfortably, and that is after only about 2 weeks of swimming! But my point is I don't really get to meet anyone or visit or anything like that, you can't talk while swimming laps! I just get in and swim for 45 mins or so and then I go home.

I know I am lucky. I have a job where I get most of the summer off. I have a pool I can go to, a park across the street where I can go to walk, (when it's not too hot). Plenty of workout videos for when it is too hot outside. Lots of books and time to read them.

So why am I complaining? I still feel lonely. There should be more to it than this. I won't to go somewhere and do something but I don't do clubs and what else is there but going to a restaurant or shopping?

I just feel so restless.

    Is there a water aerobics class that you can go to? They're great for meeting people, making new friends, and most of all, for exercising!

    Hi there!

    Happy 4th of July! I think it's a cool idea to look into aquasport classes at the university, too. Any water aerobics or anything like that?

    I have been following your weather and it's just so hot, so having to head in to get out of the heat is limiting. Try to enjoy your down time, and be on the look out for a summer club advertised in your paper or something.

    We are always here or on FB too (I know it's not the same!).

    Congratulations on your fitness and fitting in time to enjoy the outside! I also feel it it is harder to connect with people over the summer! Let me know what you find. I do like the idea of a book club, or maybe a class? Is there anything you've ever wanted to learn how to do? The summer would be a good time to learn Spanish, photography, knitting, baking or something.

    Have you thought about some other social outlet at the pool - maybe aqua classes - I have found them to be a lot of fun and made friends there too... just wish I could get my car reliable enough to go back again... I really miss the swimming and the difference it makes.

    It is definitely full winter here... icy cold in the mornings but thankfully it has been rather lovely with lots of winter sun during the days. Both my boys are sick with sniffles which doesn't help with the general happiness level :P

    Other ideas might be a book club or library social group?

    I am quite isolated here, so almost all my friends are online :D

    Try to relax and enjoy your summer. Swimming is such good exercise, but I understand what you mean about it being a lonely sport. Don't forget to check into SP once in a while. I always enjoy hearing how you're doing.

    I'm wondering if you are just not fully wound down from the hectic end of year yet. emoticon
    Maybe you're still in high gear.
    You must, you will (I hope) slow down and appreciate each day as it unfolds and let it be what it was meant to be. Try not to over-schedule your day and see what happens.
    I know what you mean about feeling lonely some times, though.
    My DH's hearing is going (which he refuses to do anything about).
    He always was a quiet guy and a bit of a loner (opposites attract!) and is getting more and more so as we get older.
    Wait until you retire- you will learn to relax.
    I LOVE it - although my 'little' retirement job has gradually taken over my life- now working 4-5 days a week, 6 hour days- pays my health insurance- something I didn't know anything about when I planned my retirement.

    Barbara, you can very easily connect to friends on Spark. Without Spark in the winter months in Maine it is just as lonely as you are feeling now. Now is the time to find friends that you are comfortable with. You can connect by reading their Blogs and blogging. I never thought I would ever be doing this but I find it to be quite uplifting.
    There is a place on the Spark points that says 10 minutes of stress free time. I can click that any and every day because sharing with people I can honestly de-stress and it keeps my mind working. I am a mover, no longer the reader and introvert I used to be.
