Trail runs...

Last Summer, my two boys and I headed out to a technical mountain biking trail for them to ride on. I knew I wasn't comfortable letting them go on their own, and I also knew that I am not capable of riding with them, so I decided to run with them....I was very nervous, with the rocky uneven terrain and all of the hills. What I didn't expect was how much I would love it.
Depending on the path they choose, runs go from 3 miles to 6...typically about 4.6.....
Yesterday we ventured out for the first time this Summer, and I immediately remembered how much I enjoyed these trips. We start the event with a stop at Dunkin Donuts for them....I usually have already eaten breakfast, but not yesterday - and I caved when I saw the new Captain America Donut....jelly filled, with white frosting and sprinkles...YUMMY....so I knew I was going to have to work hard because of that.
We arrived, and off we went - the boys chose the longer of the two rides they do, and it was great. Sometimes the run feels a little disjointed due to starting and stopping (there are some trick areas that they like to spend time at)....so I get a cool down a little - but we are together and having fun - and that is more imporant...
After the trail ride, it is about a mile to the quarry they jump at - where I get another cool down, before running .75 back to the car.
All in all it was a 4.6 mile ride yesterday that burnt over 500 calories....YIPEE.
My hamstrings are tight today and I can feel some water retention from tired muscles, but I feel great.
I have a 10K on Monday so I had planned on running today and taking Sat/Sun off to rest up - but I think I might switch Sat and today - so that I don't pull anything.
Happy 4th of July everyone!!!!
