Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition -LaRhonda

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

Did you see this episode?
You can also watch it online if you do a search or check hulu.com to find it.

She started out at 433 pounds.
She named her tummy Bertha and was glad to see her go away.
She ended at 231 pounds
She lost 200 pounds....that's amazing.

This one actually showed more of shopping for food, learning to eat better, and she met her goals. It was interesting that after the weightloss surgery she lost almost no weight in the last 3 months. I couldn't imagine all the nip/tock all at once --arms, tummy, and ???

This one really hit home for me because I am about that weight . I would have to say that I am in better shape, but the scale still reads around the same number.

I love this show. I never watched biggest loser, so I don't know how it compares.
She looked terrific at her reveal.

There are differences between the two shows. If you are looking to follow someone more closely The Biggest Loser kind of lets you "know" the person and the struggles they have gone through over a longer period of time. There are more games and more workout challenges that I think we could incorporate more at home.

Extreme Makeover is good for a quick fix but doesn't seem to motivate me as much.
I like to be able to come back to the Biggest Loser week after week to see the progress each one has made. How much did they lose each week. The one hour segment is "too fast" for me. Guess I feel like I am part of the competition when I am watching Biggest Loser.

This is one of my favorite shows and I use it to walk to on the treadmill.

The episode this week was really good. Such a personality and so much to conquer with her emotions!

I did see the show and found it very moving. I was really happy for her and know that she must have gone through a lot with the surgery. I'm sure it takes a lot of healing time. I felt badly for her sister. When I saw her on the show it looks like she too is morbidly obese. It's a shame they couldn't have gone through this together. Would have made for great TV!

Her not losing in the last three months, after major surgery, like that is very understandable. During major surgery, and for the days you are in the hospital following it, one is usually being given IV with glucose, in it to keep the body hydrated and functioning correctly, as the anesthetic, is working out of the money, but I gained a lot of weight in the hospital due to this after my last surgery, and it took quite awhile to lose it. I was told the tissue feels up with water throughout the whole body.

I know a woman who had this surgery and she was in a body suit continuously, for a long time, except when she went to the doctor to get staples and stitches removed. She was allowed to take one off to launder, take a shower, and put another one right back on, 24/7. It helps to mold the body into shape and to keep pressure on the body to release the water.

I missed this episode, and will write down the address so I can find it. Thanks for the update.

We have been watching... and although none of us (in our household) are over 300 lbs these days .... we know there is still a long way for us to go....

Dan has lost 10 inches since i moved here 2 yrs ago, and He started eating at home more. Shara is about the same as when she joined our household... But she has went up and down a bit... Me - I have went down 30 lbs... and still have a lot more to go!!

I love the show, I agree with the others, i believe this one is more healthy and more reasonably set to teach the person, that healthy is a way of life.... (what we are doing here on SP)... and not just a trend for a short time to compete and lose... I physically have medical issues, and have a hard time with the possibility of changing my life to exercise 5-6 hrs a day... but WOWSIE!!!! what a change!!!

In some ways I like this show better than BL. BL is ultimately a game with contestants competing to win money.

I think this show is more positive and I like how it concentrates on breaking up goals into 90 days, & 180 days.
